carb adjustments

I dont have any decent info on this so I'll describe it as well as I can. I have a 16 hp twin cylinder Briggs. Right now its in a Gilson but I'd like to put it into a Simplicity 5116 but I would like it to run right first. The problem is it runs way too rich. It has a front mounted carb with an integral fuel pump of sorts and almost appears fuel injected? I dont see any adjustment screws on it so how do I lean it out? Any ideas? Thanks in advance Dan

If that has a carb mounted fuel pump, I think high speed screw is underneath it a bit.

Not sure of the year, but the early Briggs opposed twins had an adjustable main jet. It was located (facing the front or carb side of the engine) on the lower right front of the carb at the bottom of the fuel bowl. Later models had a fixed main jet, and there is a screw in plug in that same location. The idle mixture screw is in the lower front center of the carb, just below the fuel bowl. If you have the fixed main jet, there is no adjustment to lean it out, save replacing the jet with a smaller one. I would first check the float level. With the top off the carb and inverted so the float rests on the needle, the float should be parallel to the cover. Second, check the float to see if it has a leak. Could have fuel in it so it doesn't float at the proper fuel level. Next would be the float needle and seat. Could be leaking so excess fuel is pushed into the manifold. Finally, it could be a loose or extremely worn main jet. Pat
