i recently picked up a 3416H at yard sale and have been starting to use it over the past couple of weeks. didn't realize what a good deal i'd gotten until i started looking around for information on it. came with tiller, trailer, blower, and mower deck...$225.00! It ran fine for a while but has recently started to act up. she seems to lose power when under load but it is intermitent. yesterday i mowed the entire lawn with no problem, today i couldn't get 2 feet without losing all power. i have rebuilt the carb already but wondering what might be my next step toward solving the problem without trying numerous other things with no luck? seems to me there are a lot of knowledgable people on this sight and would appreciate some advice. thanks!

Next step if fuel line is clear is to open up high speed jet a tad. The cast irons are sometimes finnicky in that area. Try it then report back.

Check for mouse nests behind the shrouds that can cause overheating and vaporlock. Service air cleaner. Check ignition system. Replace spark plug.

Iv'e seen head gaskets do the same thing after it gets a little heated up. Looses compression. Make sure your heads are tight and properly torqued. Good Luck Doc

Also recheck your gaskets on the air intake elbow. Sometimes the gasket between the baffle plate and block slips down when you try to assemble it.

thanks for all of those suggestions. i'm going to try them out when i get home tonight. gaskets were mentioned a couple times and i just remembered that my carb rebuild kit had 2 parts in it i could not locate on my carb. 1 was a blue , thick gasket and the other was a very small, green rubber ring. i decided that the kit was probably for 2 different carbs and that i didn't need them. did i miss something here?

My friend came over, and we checked the ignition. It had a weak spark. When we pulled the cover off the points and condenser, we noticed it was sparking across the points -- bad condenser. We installed an Omega electronic ignition, because we had one on hand. Ran like a top after that. May go back to stock one day. Thanks.
