Hello Friends, Who was not already annoyed with that to remove the color or with sand off ? a advice for all make the one new Lacquer finish: One gives the parts to a caustic solution bath with 180°F, and lets her 30 minute influence. Subsequently, the parts are washed off only with water and a sponge. The caustic solution bath becomes out: 1 part of 30% caustic soda solution (NaOH)and 10 parts Water (H2O). Anyone know a common name for Sodium Hydroxide or is that it? Where can it be purchased? Thanks Gerhard. Brent

You can but it right here online at amazon.com. Be careful with it if you use it..it will etch your skin just like it etched those parts.

Seems like I heard that oven cleaner does this same thing... might have that stuff in it, I am not sure.

The chemical designation is : NaOH 30% it is available a caustic solution and in liquid form. The same giebt it also in powder form with the designation: Caustic soda. Oven Cleaner does contain Sodium hydroxide= lye=caustic soda...alot of products out their that contain it but their are many forms and used in many different products as well.

Yea I thought I read somewhere that oven cleaner can be used for paint stripper.And that anything with lye in it would remove paint...

Yes I have used Oven cleaner on one of my old Farm tractor Restorations works good also.. someone had send me a recipie of a stripper that had Lye in it.. But I miss placed it..

Yes Maynard, Brake fluid is also well however the whole in 10 gal. ??? that becomes expensive ... lol

I hope it functioned to your satisfaction. you may not forget everything up to heat up 180°F

Yes that is, it it the caustic solution would become otherwise cold.
