dbarhydt Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 :D Hi there I am new to this page But I have inherited a 1961 B-1 Wheel tractor and several attachment. My fatherin lporte,Indiana Allis Chalmers plant for 35+ years. He was a millwright and maintenece man> The plant was so big that his group rode one of these B-1's around the plant .In 1966 he was given the opurunity to buy 1 of six that the factory had been using. He bought this one and the rototiller, the snow blade, the snow blower and the plow and cultivator and the front couter weight.I can actually still mow with it. It starts up and runs good,It does blow some smoke when its under load But everything works great:)
Roy Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Dennis, B-1's are great tractors. Except for the lack of horsepower I like my B-1 better than my new Sovereign. Take good care of it.
goatfarmer Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Not much left of the old Allis plant in LaPorte these days. There was an effort going to save the smokestack, but I don't know what happened there.
