Did some carb work today...

I decided to take the carb off of the MTD to clean it...it was a complete mess. When I started taking it apart all of this stuff that looked like swamp water came out. I guess it was varnishing that had not stuck to the sides or something. I also found a spring and some sort of strange metal/plastic thing when I took off the engine cover...the spring was sitting on the block and the strange thing just fell out so I don't know where it came from. They were not attached to anything, so I am assuming they were not important. I messed up putting the choke cable back on properly, so I will need to fix that in the morning. I will also add some oil and hopefully with the new battery and fresh gas it will run. The battery has not built up a good charge yet, so I will run it for a while to let it do so and to allow the engine to warm up for the first time in months.

Paco, Until you find out what that little spring is I wouldn't throw it away. It could be part of your governor linkage, you might want to look up your engine manual at Briggs & Stratton (if it is a B&S). I've thrown parts away before and then found out I needed them later then had to go out and try and find them either on here or EBay. My 2 cents worth

I think I will post a picture when I get the chance. Unfourtunately I put the float in wrong...and I can't figure out how to put it in right. The tractor leaked gas all night and it was a mess this morning. To add to my troubles a bolt broke off. I am thinking that I will just get a new carb if I can find one. At least this thing is just a run of the mill MTD and not something nicer for me to screw up.

Over a year ago, you answered a question I had about the tool bar for my FDT. In your reply dated Dec 31, 2019  you said the spacer, part #16, goes in the bar to allow for up and down depth adjustment. does this mean the bolt has to be tightened at whatever depth desired or does the bolt slide up and down, allowing the lower hitch to free float?
If it is tightened so the lower hitch and the bar are rigid, then is the depth to be controlled by the shoes? Or by the lift handle?
Is there any kind of user directions for the tool bar? The Outdoor Power Manual basically shows how to assemble the bar but not how to use it
