Stormy you need to make or have made some kind of bracket/bumper for the front of your tractor. The weight you posted in the Ebay post is too small for the tractor. The best would be bar stock that you could hang suitcase style weights or barbell type plates from.

Stormy, After 15 years of garden tractor pulling, I have made a lot of weights. If it is steel or lead or concrete it will usually make a good weight. The suitcase weights are good but usually expensive, at least $1.00 per pound. You can also use steel barbels that can be purchased at places like WalMart. Another good source of weight is exercise machines that have cables attached to weights in the back. You can usually buy these in yard sales and take the weights off for use on your tractor. I have also seen and used weights that were a piece of pipe, 6 or 8 inches diameter poured full of concrete. As you can see from this varition of types, the mounting attachment is dependent on the type of weight that you will be using. If you want to buy suitcase type, John Deere sells a 45 pound version. That is where I bought the four that I have. I am sure they are also available elsewhere. Batteries in my camera died Saturday when the wife was trying to take pictures of the trees we cut down. If she gets the camera working again, I post some pictures of the types of weights I have and the way that I attach them to the tractor. Doesn't take much, but you will have to get a bracket fabricated.

We use the JD weights I think they are actually lawn and Garden weights... There just the right size and the old ones didn't Say John Deere on them but some of the newers one's do.... Other wise just look at yard sales and Scrap yards... Heck I even picked up a set at the local dump one day when I was there... LOL

Seems like it's something new to deal with everyday.I guess that is to be expected until everything is just right.I think I know what you are talking about as far as suitcase weights.I would imagine that would be expensive. If you decided to use the suitcase weights how do you know how much weight you need?I know I ask alot of dumb questions:Ibut I haven't seen any on the tractors here or have just overlooked it.I assume they are detachable. Now getting that attachment made is going to be another problem..for me anyways:DI would appreciate the pictures if you have time to do so.;) Bunky what is bar stock? You are always out there getting that good deal.Maybe I need to visit the dump^.As far as the ebay item glad you told me it wouldn't work because I didn't know. I don't have any manuals to this tractor.I would imagine their is something missing on mine that keeps the hood closed. It bounces up and down a little. This particular tractor also seems to be really cold collard takes it awile to warm up..I don't know if thats normal or not..because I haven't had any previous experiences with one.Right now I'm concentrating on getting everything right so it will function properly....I would really like to have another one just like it to restore.I really appreciate all the help. Robin^

Hey Stormy, if you come out East to visit I'll let you have a couple of weights. They are sections of (I think) 6" pipe maybe a foot long filled with lead, go about 150# each....

Robin The only DUMB question is the one that is never ASKED! Can’t help you out on the front counter weights. Check for some farm auctions because the suitcase weights usually go pretty cheap. There is supposed to be two little rubber snubbers that hold your hood down. On the back and just before the S on Simplicity on the decal on your picture in the gallery on the hood there should be two little pegs one on each side sticking out. The rubber fastens below the hood and stretch to fasten it down. Your Simplicity dealer will know what you’re talking about. Don’t remember how much they cost tho? I’m new to these tractors also but learning more every day about them being they do have a few things that have to be fixed or adjusted. Good luck and keep asking & learning! Wayne

Wayne I really appreciate that...When I post a question I just wonder how many people sit back and laugh:Dthen on the other hand if I made them laugh I did a good deed:)I appreciate all the folks that jump in and help me out.I'm gona go take a look at the hood and locate those pegs. Thanks for your help and I have alot to learn .Getting there slowly but surely. Stormy, I was thinking today, that maybe you should just get some front wheel weights. This may be enough. I'm not sure what size wheels yours has on the front, but wheel weights are made for 8 inch and 12 inch wheels. They go on with only two bolts through the existing holes in the wheels. If your wheels dont have holes, then the two holes can be drilled through the wheel.

Thank you Mr.Hubbard I will check that out tomorrow..I didn't make it out to the tractor today to look at those pegs...I had to cut the grass and I broke the rider again so I had to push..and dang I'm give out and the 90 degree weather didn't help.:):D Robin

I'm in Connecticut, look up Foxwoods Casino and I'm about 5 miles to the North of that "monstrosity in the Connecticut woods".... a supposedly "Indian" nation. What really gets me is that they advertise (and I quote) "the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation practices Indian preference in hiring and is an Equal Opportunity Employer". Now how can that be????? Kind of like saying "all animals are equal, but pigs are more equal than other animals"(from Orwell's "Animal Farm")..... Yes those weights are really that heavy, but to be accurate I'll measure and weigh one tomorrow and post the results.... with pics no less!!

Robin, If you weren't so far away you could have these. I have 4 of these weights weighing at 50lbs each. They're made for a building scaffle to repair tuckpoint but worked great on my old snowplow tractor. If anyone wants they can come pick them up in Wisconsin. Free for the taking. I would hate to ship them at this weight.

Robin Bar stock is a solid metal bar. Most bar bell wheights are have a 3/4 inch hole for the bar to slide in. You could also use heavy or thick wall tubing. for the side brackets you could use flat stock or angle iron to make them. Flat stock is like a big sheet of paper only it's metal. I hope this helps

Robin, While I usually avoid the place like the plague, I was in Wal-Mart this morning after fishing tackle and on the next aisle over noticed their barbells and such. They had fairly cheap solid, painted cast-iron weights in 10 and 25 lbs. Measured the 25's and they were about an inch thick and 11 inches in diameter, with a fairly small center hole...would be easy to bolt on. Might even make decent rear wheel weights as well... g'luck

I picked up a set of plastic coated barbell weights at a yard sale for 50 cents for the entire set. There's about 8 weights in the set. Check your yard sales, flea markets, etc. It's a whole lot cheaper than buying new, and the weights work just as well. These have the advantage of having a center hole slightly over 1", so they will fit on the rear lift for counterweight. If you go this route, you would need to build some kind of hanger so the weights could be hung off the front of the tractor. There is also a dedvice currently marketed on eBay that allows barbell weights to be attached to tires for wheel weights. Steve

Stormy, as promised here is the accurate information. The pipes are 6", and I weighed one that was filled about 7-8" deep. It tipped the scale at 100# even, so a full foot would work out to right around 150#.

Ms Hubbard, Here are some pictures of weights. The one with the handle in the first picture is what is called a suitcase weight. The other is a piece of steel plate with a short piece of angle iron welded to it as a hook. The second picture shows some of the cast iron BarBell weights bolted to the same rack. The front weight rack is two pieces of flat steel bar bolted to the flanges on the front axle that the mower and other attachments hook to, with a section of three inch angle iron welded to it.

Kirk, Did you ever here of Saint Thomas More in Oakdale, CT? Friend of the family who passed away last April, worked there as the head of maintenance from 1983-1994. He was the one who was trying to reopen the Norwich New London Drive-in Theater in Uncassville, back in 1991-1992.

Thanks Kris and Kirk.I wish I was closer I would take them off your hands.I appreciate everybodys help. Thanks for all the pictures that really helps.I guess I'm gona have to find me a welder for a bracket.Mr.hubbard their are no holes in the wheels but their is on the rear wheels.I like the way yours are attached...the pictures helped a great deal.I throwed away some identical weights not to long ago(0h well).Wayne I found the pegs..they are way up front next to the Y in Simplicity.I didn't know if the rubber would go from the inside or the out to strap it down.I guess I will check the ones out at wal_mart if I can't find some in a yard sale. It's gotta be something I can pick up.I don't think I can pick those of Daddycats up..whew...I couldn't even come close. Thanks all for your help and when i get it all figured out and took care of will post a pic. Hi Stormy, how large is your brush hog?I was just wondering, it should support its weight when hitch is down or did I misunderstand, and its lifting the wheels when you raise the hitch? I don`t have a powermax but I have two brush hogs and never needed any front weight.on my tractors ,then again maybe the power max is a bit light in the front I dont know. It could just need a little adjustment at the hitch. just a thought John

It is a 4 foot Simplicity. When the mower is down it becomes very light in the front end.I didn't want to tell this..I slid it into some pine trees trying to get it stopped:D:).I hope the weights will cure the problem. Now I got a nice dent to take care of.:I Thanks Stormy

Robin Is there any type adjustment turnbuckle or sleeve? That if you let it out so the brushhug would be pushed down some in the down postion. that would jack some weight from the rear to the front then you wouldn't need the weights.
