I'm a new member and I'm looking at purchasing a 912 hydro. Just wondering if what I'm looking to pay for it is reasonable/a good deal/getting ripped off/etc. It is an early 80's model that is in perfect condition - mechanically and paint-wise. It comes with a rear tiller and a 42" deck. They're asking $2000. I'm trying to decide over that and a 316 John Deere - are they similar tractors in respect to quality and longevity? Thanks!!!

2 grand sounds high, but not outrageous. See if they'll deal. On the JD vs AC front,I've owned a JD 208,along with my Simplicity/Allis Chalmers (712,2110,Homesteader,3410,and Broadmoor)tractors. I prefer the orange, because of price and availability of parts. Also, they seem to be a lot easier to work on than the green one was. Also cuts the grass better than the Deere.JMHO8)

To my way of thinking it sounds high. But it all depends on how bad you want it. I would not pay more than $1200-1400 for a unit like that myself. I bought a 7116H in great shape with a 48" deck, two vac units and a dump trailer for $900 about 2 1/2 yrs ago. Has been my main tractor ever since, only thing I have done is to rebuild the deck arbors. The two tractors are close in quality and longevity, the AC will give a better cut to my way of thinking.

Price is way high. Keep your eyes open and you'll do a lot better. Try the classifieds here. You should be able to get that package or similar for under a grand if you are patient. Brent

John, Seems a bit too high to me. Being from the Great State of Wisconsin there are better deals everywhere. Keep watching the classifieds here on the site and Ebay. UCD does a great job at keeping up to date with the EBay Simplicity/ Allis Chalmers ads here in the EBay Forum. Keep watching them.

Over a year ago, you answered a question I had about the tool bar for my FDT. In your reply dated Dec 31, 2019  you said the spacer, part #16, goes in the bar to allow for up and down depth adjustment. does this mean the bolt has to be tightened at whatever depth desired or does the bolt slide up and down, allowing the lower hitch to free float?
If it is tightened so the lower hitch and the bar are rigid, then is the depth to be controlled by the shoes? Or by the lift handle?
Is there any kind of user directions for the tool bar? The Outdoor Power Manual basically shows how to assemble the bar but not how to use it
