I ran my $30 model 19 for a couple of hours today afer installing a S/G,replacing a condenser, changing a fitting on the carb and a good cleaning. While it ran well and wasn't noisy it did smoke on both acceleration and deacceleration and since there was a trail of oil making it's way down the eng plate from the head gasket area I figured it wouldn't hurt to remove the head and take look inside. I guess I'll have to measure the bore and with any luck I can give this a quick hone and ring job. Has any one fiddled with the end caps to adjust end play on the crankshaft, this one like all of the others that I have seen, has plenty. I've noticed that these engines seem to wear the timing gear on the crank or is it supposed to look like it's worn?

I'd love to take out the "border="0"> but that doesn't show in message box only in the finnished and preview. Ugh! Agh!!! There they're working now @#$%!

If I remember correctly the crankshaft end play is supposed to be 0.002 to 0.008". It is adjusted by gasket thickness on the side opposite the flywheel. Engine gasket kits come with an assortment of different thickness gaskets so you can set the end play correctly.
