Hydro Slippage

The hydro on my Simp 7119 seemes to be slipping. I made sure that is was full of fluid. When you push the lever all the way forward it stalls, and it runs away down hill. It does not run away in reverse. It doesnt mow too bad, but just doesnt go full speed. My first thought was the belt but if that was it then reverse would run away too, wouldnt it? Do you think it could just need a fluid/filter change?

First thing I checked was the push valves, I took some WD40 and sprayed them down and wiped them off, they both look the same. When I push the hydro lever all the way forward the tractor moves, then slows to a crawl, then jerks forward some, it is definately not full speed. It will coast in forward but stays put in reverse. I have not heard of anybody having any trouble with a hydro, do you think it just needs a fluid change?

The jerky movement seems strange to me. In my experience, hydros that are need of new fluid and/or rebuilds are usually consistently slower or consistently run away in both directions when the control lever is set at comparable speed settings. When you tested the runaway problem, were you going travelling at the same ground speed both forward and reverse before you headed down the hill (your message implies that you have the runaway problem at full speed downhill, which is a lot faster than full speed in reverse)? I have found that the runaway problem is usually a lot worse at faster speeds.

Les Change the fluid and filter for starters Get an oem Filter or Wix/Napa equivilent filter. Had the free wheeling valves been pushed in for any reason before You noticed it doing this?

This discussion has occured before, but is the NAPA filter as good as the OEM? What are the part numbers?

Thanks Maynard, but now you got me confused. The tractor is a Simplicity 7119 with the new style filter, the short one that is on top. Because my other 900 series has the older style filter with the filter underneath, the long filter, which was the same as on a Simplicity 7016(I used to own two different ones). But you say that there is a short a medium and a long. I am assuming that my tractor needs the 1709322 filter, since it is a 7100 series. Now, should I cross that number over to NAPA Gold or NAPA Silver? Thanks again for the help.

I would go with the Napa 1068 Wix 51068 They all work and are listed for the sundstrand 15 Or better yet get a OEM simplicity filter from your dealer if you are not sure. 1650954 Simplicity Part Number: 51084 UPC Number: 765809510845 Principal Application: Cushman, IHC, Onan Engines All Applications Style: Spin-On Lube Service: Lube/Transmission Type: Full Flow Media: Paper Height: 4.194 Outer Diameter Top: 3.663 Outer Diameter Bottom: Closed Thread Size: 3/4-16 By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 7-9 Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes Gasket Diameters Number O.D. MAynard, Shouldn't the 900, 71000 series with the side mount filters next to the rear tire use the shorter filter? Anyhow the filters on mine look like about a 2" tall filter or a close to it..... Also look here at what you posted

The 2 numbers on the left are the same yet you have different numbers on the right....

Was copied straight from the simplicity Filter chart.

Was copied directly from the wix filter Site with the exception of the napa numbers I converted them. (to convert a wix filter# to a napa# you drop the first number) The filters are very close in specs the allis# 1650954 Converts to Wix 51068 NAPA# 1068 is the most common of the filters and for some reason cheaper than the Wix 51084 NAPA 1084 Wix 51084 list price $14.39 wix 51068 list price $9.39 I would use the Wix51068/NAPA1068 as it comes up first on a cross search. On these Simplicity charts I find a lot of conflicting info. Same tractors The allis will call for one thing the Simplicity something else. Some call for 90wt gear lube in the BGB others call for multi purpose hyd. fluid,. others ATF which is a hyd. fluid. Dealers will tell you to use ATF. A lot of new Car and Truck manual transmissions today are running ATF in them.

1650954 crossing over to 2 differnt filters throws me off. Also in regards to :

My parts books show this filter also used on the 900 series Allis Chalmers, and the 7100 series and newer where the filter is mounted on the side of the transmission case next to the rear wheel. Does 1671234 cross over to a wix or napa equivalent?

Sam this is what I come up with Wix 51335 which should be a NAPA 1335 Part Number: 51335 UPC Number: 765809513358 Principal Application: Renault (68-84) All Applications Style: Spin-On Lube Service: Lube Type: Full Flow Media: Paper Height: 2.483 Outer Diameter: 3.670 Thread Size: 3/4-16 By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 8-11 Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes Gasket Diameters Number O.D. Some time after I got the 4040 I got the info, I suspect here, that the hydro filter is to be a Baldwin B 163, Which crosses to a NAPA 1307. The NAPA book lists a 1068 for the engine and hydro for a 4040, thought they were suppose to be different. The NAPA man I was dealing with today said the 1068 is the one he uses on his Dodge's. Found a tranny shop that carries Baldwin's. It cost me 6 bucks for a B 163, the NAPA 1307 was 6 bucks plus some change. I now have a NAPA 1307 on it so my hopes of Rogers luck are kinda dim, I'll find out in the morn...MPH

Marty Here are the specs on the Napa 1307 Wix 51307 The bypass valve setting is set kind of high on this filter. Which means as the filter paper fills up and plugs it takes higher pressure before it bypasses that could cause a starvation problem. (maybe not) the rest of specks are very close. I crossed the Simplicity # with Baldwin and came up with two numbers. Same as Wix. Comp Name     Comp PartNo Baldwin ALLIS CHALMERS   1650954    B233 SIMPLICITY          1650954    B163
Crossed the baldwin B233 and got this Search Results for B233 Part Number Manufacturer WIX Part Number B233          BALDWIN       51068
Les This is All Your Fault LOL
PS Don,t want to cause any confusion just posting the specs as I find them.

I'm going to go pick up a NAPA 1335 for my 917AC tonight and try it out... I finally got a 1307 to fit my 720. The threads are so poorly cut in these filters that you have to get it on just right for it to go on. It did make a noticable difference in the way the the hydraulic lift operated as far as speed went...
