Hopefully I am safe in assuming the 16 horse Briggs in my compadre's machine has what is considered to be a "large, two-piece Flo-Jet" carb. Can anyone set my small mind at ease in confirming this? Also, is there a set of numbers to give the Briggs dealer for the thing when he goes in to get a carb rebuild kit and a welch plug for the thing? He's pretty green on this stuff and I'm not there...a number would, I think, instill confidence. Plus, I've found a lot of dealers look at you funny when ya try to describe what is needed on a machine 30 years old, at least out here. Thanks

Bob, You're right about the carb. Get the numbers off the engine, probably located on the shroud, the Model, Type and Code. Take these numbers to a Briggs dealer and tell them you want a carburetor overhaul kit for that engine. You can also go to the Briggs website and look up the illustrated parts list for the engine with these numbers and determine the kit that you need. I believe you need part no. 391071 Kit-Carburetor Overhaul but I can't be sure so double check before buying. The carb kit will include the welch plug.

Thanks Greg. Last kit I bought didn't have a welch plug in it...strange...must've gone missing.
