MPH Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 Started sorting out 725 parts outta the box, came upon these two matching parts that I have no clue where they go. Holes don't seem to match anything I have, pretty sure they came off the tractor, they were soaking in the same cleaner as the funky little fender clips.. HELP!!! Thanks..MPH
rokon2813 Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 thoose are the dohickeys that go between the whatchamagigger and the thingamabob

MPH Posted July 21, 2003 Author Posted July 21, 2003 Darn midnite mechanics, can't do anything right.Sorry guys..MPH
Dutch Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 Marty, Those are locks for a Briggs flywheel nut. They just go over the large nut that holds the flywheel to the crankshaft.
DanielB Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 This looks like the "retainer" for the flywheel in the Briggs motor. Not sure why you would have two unless it's from two motors.
Kent Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 Unless I'm mistaken, those are retainers that go on the engine's large flywheel nut to keep it from coming loose...
MPH Posted July 21, 2003 Author Posted July 21, 2003 Herb, Dan and Kent, Thanks.. Haven't opened the box of engine parts yet so my brain wasn't even thinking down that path, scary...MPH
Kent Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 Hmmm... three answers in less than 50 seconds.... How's that for responsiveness? :D
MPH Posted July 21, 2003 Author Posted July 21, 2003 The beauty of your creation here Kent, THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!MPH
andy gartner Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 Hmmm Should those retainers/locktabs be on vertical shaft 8 or 11 HP Briggs engines? Thanks A
PatRarick Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 To my knowledge, they were only used on the single cylinder cast iron, horizontal shaft engines. Pat

rokon2813 Posted July 24, 2003 Posted July 24, 2003 Cool Rod. I knew that would come up sooner or later. It does on every site I've ever been on. Let me enlighten everyone. Though you might think rokon2813 should have something to do with rock music it doesnt. It is pronounced Row Con. Rokon is, besides Harley, an American made motorcycle. I used to race a 1974 Rokon RT 340 in vintage motorcross. FYI they are still in business and only build 2 wheel drive bikes. They are pretty neat and you can get many attachments for them. Normal stuff like sidecars but also "tractor stuff" like log skidders, pto powered sprayers and even ground engaging implements. Some here who have been in the military may know what I'm talking about. Military has used them extensively and according to the factory there was some 2500 of them in Desert Storm. Somewhere I have some literature on the implements. If I ever find it I will post a couple pics. Its very interesting to see a plow or disc pulled by a motorcycle. For a while their advertising was that it was "a two wheeled tractor"
HubbardRA Posted July 28, 2003 Posted July 28, 2003 I love to hear about unique machines. Have you ever seen a Crosley with dual wheels and AG tires? They had 12 inch wheels and used garden tractor tires on them. They were neat little British cars. There is a local guy who has over 20 of them.
Ryan Posted July 28, 2003 Posted July 28, 2003 Don't forget the rokon was a 2 wheel grive mc with the drive shaft for the front wheel running under the fuel tank. They also had ag tires
jkmustang1 Posted July 28, 2003 Posted July 28, 2003 Rod Crosley were usa made. They have a 4cly motor with the head made as part of the block. All parts go in from the bottom or under the valve cover. They had a patent process on the valve seats that was called cobra. It gave Shelby fits when he was getting the rights to use that name for his AC cars.
HubbardRA Posted July 28, 2003 Posted July 28, 2003 Jon, Thanks for the info. I had always thought Crosley was British. Always learning something new. Have you ever seen one of the Crosley trucks with the dual wheels and AG tires? The guy I met had the trucks, cars, and station wagons. He used to haul one to shows in a horse trailer, because they were so small. I know another guy who has one with a 2.3 liter Ford engine in it.
jkmustang1 Posted July 28, 2003 Posted July 28, 2003 I sat in a 1947 truck once in a barn. Never saw any with ag tires or dual tires. A 2.3 ford in one can you say scary fast. My dad tells of him and three buddys pranking a kid in school with them. They took his car from it's parking place. The carried his car around behind the school bus garage it to was a Crosley.
Roy Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 I remember riding in a 1949 or 1950 Crosley station wagon when my Dad took a new one for a test drive. He wound up buying a Willys Jeep Station Wagon.
ka9bxg Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 There is a man that brings his collection of Crosley things to the Mt Pleasnt show every year.He has a snowmobile a motorcycle and a few other strange things.Bob
