We should all know that exposure to the elements and mowing wet grass takes its toll, and many times washing tractors does more harm than good. As to an armature specifically (or any electrical component), I would suggest that you leave it alone. Some paints or prevervatives may attack and deteriorate needed insulation or conduct current. If an armature doesn't work, replace it. If it works, don't fix what ain't broke.
