country Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 I'm sure this has been asked before. I'm looking into getting some ag tires. I have found the Carlylse super lug, the power master, and Chen Shing (I think). I can't get any links or websites for Chen Shing to open, so that option seems to be out. Does anyone have an opinion between the super lugs and the power masters? Both are comparably priced with each other.
MPH Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 I have 3 different brands of ag tires, Goodyear on the 725, Carlisle on the B-112 and Titan on the 4040. Hard to compare traction difference because of the difference in the three tractors. The Carlisle's lugs are spaced a little far and are straight whereas both the goodyear and titans have a little wiggle to them, but I sure can't knock the traction of them, Just don't like the look quite as well. Don't see anything on mine if they are super lug or powermaster, but recall brain cells back three years lean towards superlug..MPH
arnoldir Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 Me thinks that the little squiggle on each lug at the center of the tread will make them ride a little smoother on hard surfaces. I have Chen Shin on my gravely rider and carlisle on a cub 122 and both do the bump-bump-bump when cruising on hardpack. I have old wards riverside tires on one of my walkers and they have the squiggle and run smoother than the standard goodyear ag type on my simplicity walker. Either way they whup turf tires.
arjr111 Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 Check out the ags on my wheelhorse. They are available from Tucker tires. They were the most reasonably priced I could find. http://www.tuckertire.com/ http://www.geocities.com/arjr111/ArtsTractors.html
Kent Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 Art, those look like the Chen Shens from Tucker. I got a set from them when I did the Big Ten, but when I was trying to get ags for my 2012/loader from them this spring, they didn't have any more. I got a different brand instead -- and I don't like them nearly as well... they have more lugs, but much smaller lugs that aren't nearly as tall (deep). I think they may be Power Masters, but I can't honestly remember -- it's whatever they're currently showing on their eBay store. I ended up trading tires/wheels and putting the new ones on the Big Ten, and the more agressive Chen Shens on the loader. I can really tell the difference in loose soil with the tiller, but I still want the more agressive tread on the loader, so I'm living with it as is... If you're going to be using it in dirt, I recommend the Chen Shens (if you can find them) or the Carlisle Super Lugs. They seem to have MUCH deeper lugs. If you're using them to mow, the other brands would likely be easier on your lawn -- and ride better. You can see the size and depth of the Chen Shen lugs in this picture: My advice, if you can't find the cheaper Chen Shen, pay the extra $$ for the Carlisle Super Lugs if you're going to be working in loose dirt...
