Hello, I have just received in excellent condition 1962 simplicity 725 tractor with the 32'' deck. All it needs is the belt that goes from the mower to tractor. After downloading the manuals off of Simplicity's site, I have a somewhat idea on how the belt connects but it doesnt tell me where. I see 2 pulleys that are not in use. They are next to each other on the bottom of the tractor. They are aiming towards the mower so I'd guess it would have to be one of these. Also, the belt would actually work diagnally like that? Wouldnt it slip off? Thanks, Gary

Here's how the belt goes. They've worked like that ("diagonally") for over 40 years and haven't slipped off yet.* *Based on using a Simplicity OEM belt.

Welcome to the site Gary, congrat on a nice find, pictures please...The belt from the mower to tractor should go on the pulley to the rt., furthest under the tractor. Now I'm assuming the two pulleys are seperated by the bearing, if not, the inner one is for the deck and the outter, smaller in dia, for a sickle mower. Now to get power to your center PTO you need a belt to run from the farthest left pully, up to the bevel Gear box, should be in a straight line and there should be an idler, over center clutch. Now I should have you all confussed and hope someone explains it clearer..Since you have the manuals see if you can find a shot of the center PTO...MPH

Wow, thanks guys those were quick replys! Actually I do have the whole belt and pulley setup for engaging the mower deck. The belt on the pto system that engages the mower when you push the lever down, seems to be stretched. When I push the lever down, the pulleys just arent making enough contact with the belt so nothing moves. I guess I need a new belt? Must be stretched which I can understand for this unit being over 40 years old :-). Thanks, Gary

Might check to make sure the idler pulley is going the rt way. Mine will sometimes go down instead of up if the belt has been off, then it don't work.Mine is all pretty sloppy, lose, and been welded on many times before I got it..MPH

Gary, the twist in the belt goes as shown in the picture above. If the twist is in the other direction, the blades will turn "backwards" and mower will cut very poorly. As to the pto belt, it could be stretched or the spring may need adjustment. Also, make sure the pto is under spring tension. There's a lever connected to the pto that rotates back and forth (from the front to the back of the tractor). The rear position adds tension to the pto system. If you're going to buy a new belt, take the old one with you and compare size - if the new belt is the same size as the old one, then an adjustment is needed, or maybe there is a problem with one of the pulleys.
