bubba_t _flubba Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 A friend from Church ask me to take a look at a 3314H with a tiller that he got given to him. After cleaning the carb and trashing a coil that someone tried using?and reconnecting the points. Ran really good. Not spending much time on the tiller though. The tiller belt seemed to hooked up like direct drive. The PTO shut off lever seemed not to be hooked up. And the tiller turned while starting the engine. After all that, the question is, should the PTO lever disengage the tiller?[:0][:0]
MPH Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Not sure how the PTO clutch for a tiller on a 3314 is configured but it should definetly disengauge the tiller. If its still like the older B series my guess is someone put on a short belt, bypassing the clutch idler, thus the direct drive..MPH
MDB Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 The 3300 series did not have a cone clutch, so therefor the answer would be no the PTO lever does not engage- disengage the tiller. You need a seperate clutch setup like on the B series:)
fomoco390 Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Actually, the way it works is that the belt hooks directly onto the BGB pulley, and there is a lever on the tiller itself that engages/disengages the drive. There is no clutch assembly like the B-10 system. Look at the tiller -- the handle-like lever (?) moves back and forth, which moves the small idler pulley up and down, which engages the drive. I hope this makes sense. James
bubba_t _flubba Posted August 22, 2003 Author Posted August 22, 2003 Thanks guys I will check out the tiller for a lever. I was kinda in a hurry or a little excited after it started. Took it right out to his garden and started tilling.
PatRarick Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Greg, download the manual http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/6767PRINT/PDF_files/TP_100_1314_00_AT_S.pdf On part that is very important, is the belt guide. This is a little rod that sticks out the side of the frame to the rear and just about even with the bottom of the BGB pulley. If that guide is missing or broken, it allows the belt to hang in the BGB pulley so it will continue to turn the tiller. Pat
