andy gartner Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 On the early decks, do you only add an once of 20wt.oil to arbor tubes, or could you convert to grease via zerks, to lube the ball bearings. Thanks, a
ReedS Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 Andy my manual says 1 oz. 20 wt into arbors via plug. Not sure about converting grease zerks IMO the oil would work better because it would flow a little better than grease. Just my 2c.
andy gartner Posted August 24, 2003 Author Posted August 24, 2003 Reed Do you notice any of your oil leaking out, when you leave the deck flat, or upside down for a time (as they recommend to lube top bearings)?
ReedS Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 Andy, I have three 42" decks but I am using the newest one at the moment because it has good arbor bearings and shamefully I can't say that I've lubed these arbors yet. The oldest deck (for the 700) definitely leaks oil from the arbor but it also has bad bearings. The other deck is one that I really haven't used yet so I haven't even tried lubing those. Guess I have some more work to do now!
