AC 314 Rear PTO

I recently purchased an AC 314 with the electric pto. It came with a tiller that wasn't attached at the time. I have repainted everything and got everything ready to go. However, I need to know how to disengage the rear PTO pulley. The operating manual shows a lever to disengage the PTO on the left side of the tractor, but I don't have one there. Believe this is for the non-electric PTO's. Does the electric PTO switch operate both the front and rear PTO. If it does mine isn't working?

My 314 uses a pulley on the bevel gear box to drive the tiller. My tiller use the manual engage style tensioner on the belt pulling the tiller. The electric PTO only applies to the front clutch that drives the deck. Do you have the 2 pulley idler assembly that attaches on the left side of the rear of the tractor? travis

Eldon, there is not clutch on the BGB pulley on a 300 series tractor. The tiller clutch is on the tiller itself:

The clutch is a belt tightener. The handle pulls the belt tightener pulley against the belt to drive the tiller. Not shown is a belt guide, which is a little rod that is bolted to the tractor frame, just behind and to the bottom of the BGB pulley. This rod should be adjusted to 1/16" to 1/8" clearance from the bottom of the belt when the tiller clutch is engaged (belt tightened). It keeps the belt from riding in the top of the BGB pulley when the clutch is disengaged, to stop the motion of the tiller. Pat

That is what I thought. But my belt is tight even with the tensioner backed off. I will recheck my belt run tonight. I will also run a string around the outside of my belt and then measure it to measure the outside diameter (circumference)of the belt. Maybe my belt is to short. Do any of you know what the length should be. Thank you for all of the help.

The 36" tiller uses belt # 105340 96.1" type HB

The numbers match on my belt but it is only 90 inches in outside diameter. That is probably the problem. I checked the belt for propoer installation last night. It is threaded correctly but you can't even think of engaging the tensioner it is so tight without it. Eldon Voigt

Just a thought, but are you sure that you have the correct tiller for your tractor? I know of someone who did not know the differences. He purchased a 36" tiller for his 716. He installed the rear lift from a 300 series tractor on his 716. The most obvious difference was the diameter of the lift sleeve. 1 1/8" on the 300 series, and 1" on the B series, 700 series and 900 series. In addition, there is a "stopper" in the 300 series sleeve that would not allow the tiller lift shaft to go as deep. In short, the tiller would not "roll" far enough ahead, so the belt was too short. He "solved" the problem by cutting the lift shaft of the tiller and drilling a new hole for the pin. Not a solution that I would have chosen, but it worked. Pat

Ok, I am pretty much back to square one. I measured the belt wrong it is 96 inches. I checked the tiller it is the one for a 300 series tractor. I had a spare lift for a 700 series and the tiller handle won't fit into it. After looking back at the posts, the one thing I see I am missing is the rod to the back of the BGB pulley. Is this rod just a bolt thru the frame or is it an adjustable mount bolted to the frame with a rod welded on. I will need to make on up. I take it when the tensioner is disengaged the belt should slip on the tractor drive pulley not the tiller pulley.

The guide is a piece of 3/16" round stock. It is bent something like this:

It bolts to an existing bolt or a hole in the frame plate. Don't know of the dimensions of the bends, as I am not familiar with the frame plates of the 300 series. Pat
