From a $500 purchase at a local auction a few years back (which also included a tiller, and a snowplow blade): I've almost finished the rebuild: This machine started life as a Wards' Squire 10, and somewhere along the line somebody painted it Simplicity orange (sort of). I've been collecting replacements parts and other enhancements for about 2 years now and decided to give it a quick coat of yellow so that it wasn't a rainbow tractor. At the start of the summer, it was in a couple piles of assorted parts. The transmission and BGB are all torn down and rebuilt with new seals and gears/shafts where necessary. I added the right hand lift and the hi-lo unit to the original. I also plan on replacing the 10 hp engine with a 16 hp. Will run it like this for about a year to work out the final adjustments (I've had some glitches in carb and hydraulic lift settings already) then repaint to a "real" uniform color.

Looks really good. Hope mine turns out like that. I'm finding out that a restoration is a lot of work, but it looks to be well worth it.

I wasn't prepared for the amount of work the frame up would take - just thought i'd shlep it all back together. well, this is worn - so it oughta be replaced. wasn't only a lot of work but a lot of money as well. think the rustoleum paint worked well for now, it's only temp for the next year. after it get a little dusty from work you won't be able to tell its a shade off either.

Dave, You said that your tractor started out as a Wards Squire 10, and I'm wondering what was the original color of the wards tractor? I have a tractor that appears to be the same model but appears to have been painted blue from the factory Thanks, John
