Dadsy98 Posted August 29, 2003 Posted August 29, 2003 The S/G belt on the 2110 twists itself around and runs sorta upside down. When I tighten the belt up it twists and tries to go up over the S/G pulley. I don't see any glaring problems with the engine or S/G pulleys. Both appear to be inline. Also, the belt is frayed on the side towards to engine. I looked over the B10, it has the same engine and S/G. It runs with no problems. The 2210 has a 4L380 belt and the B10 has a 4L390 belt. would that make a difference??? Steve
BLT Posted August 29, 2003 Posted August 29, 2003 You said the right word for the wrong belt. In today's industry 3L, 4L, 5L, belts are very low horsepower belts, JUNK. They are fractional HP belts good for furnace motors and the like. They are the cheapest belts made. You need need something with a Kelvar backing. The "L" series isn't one of them.
ReedS Posted August 29, 2003 Posted August 29, 2003 I've been using a NAPA "green" belt on my s/g for a couple of years with no problems not sure of it's nuber right now can look tomorrow if needed.
callwill Posted August 30, 2003 Posted August 30, 2003 Once a belt twists it is usually ruined; it will want to twist again. Try a new belt. I've used those "L" belts as well as plain old automotive belts in various applications on my tractors over the years with out problem. The difference in your two belts is the length.
DaleC Posted August 30, 2003 Posted August 30, 2003 Gates makes a kevlar belt in their industrial A series. A 39 in belt would be an A37K in the kevlar.
MPH Posted August 30, 2003 Posted August 30, 2003 Might inspect things real careful for rubbing signs, ie paint rubbed off. To be fraying, it must have a cause. Put a straight edge on the S/G pulley and get as close to the engine as possible. Know I been fooled before eyeballing pulley alinement..MPH
goatfarmer Posted August 30, 2003 Posted August 30, 2003 Steve,I have a NAPA green belt on my 2110 for some time now,with no problems.The # is 3L380W
Dadsy98 Posted September 5, 2003 Author Posted September 5, 2003 I found the problem with the belt twisting. The two bolts that hold the S/G bracket to the engine block weren't really tight. so I tightened them up. Whoops! I broke one flush to the block. Those left hand drill bits sure come in handy. I replaced both bolts with two grade five bolts and new lock washers. I discovered a napa belt 4L380 in the $2.00 box at a bargain store. It fits and runs like a charm. Steve
