Powermax Dies on Warm-up

A while back, there was a post about the CCKB killing unexpectedly after it warms up. There was speculation that it could be the voltage regulator or the ignition coil. Well, I have had that very problem and I replaced the voltage regulator and the problem still existed. I planned on replacing both of the above, but the coil was backordered for about a month. It could also be that the voltage regulator was indeed bad and that damaged the coil? What leads me to believe this is that I'm on my third coil on this particular tractor. I replaced the coil today and all is fine as far as I can tell. Hopefully with a new regulator and coil these problems are fixed. I was also surprised by the replacement coil. It isn't anything like the old coil. Here's a pic:

Paul, Do you mean that the coil is "shorter" than your previous ones? I have had both with no noticable difference in operation.

Butch, As you can see from the pic, this new coil looks totally different from the old ones. Having installed it, (the diameter is the same) It works just fine. I was just concerned in having such a drastic design change.

Sure is a different looking animal Paul. So what do you figure is the connection between the reg and the coil??Was it charging to high or something? I'm confussed..MPH

It doesn't look different to me. I've had two with that type coil on them.

Hey Paul, That's the superceded coil you have the oleder ones are NLA. I see them alot on the older units. They seem to work just as well as the old ones I haven't received any complaints. JP PS Is that 'Ginger Ale' in the picture to aid in installation? (LOL).......

Tractor Guys need a little lubrication from time to time also.:D Actually JP, I liked the old coils better. When the ends of the plug wires got a little corroded you could just clip the ends and push them down a little more. Now you gotta fumble around with those little brass clamps at the end of the wire.

What Kind of mechanics are you guys. Everybody knows the Miller Lite is a lubricant to make the coil fit in easier.

How much does Miller pay for your advertising:D Don't drink anymore but had my fair share of the only ^lite beer to drink in a bottle tho:D^:)
