Flywheel key could be the problem. Befire I tore into that make sure you have a continous flow of gas, maybe the line is restricted or the filter pluged, which will let enough gas through to start but not run. Might be real simple, done it more then once myself, forget to turn the gas on at the tank, gone so far as pulling the plug before the lite came on. Most likely to happen when in a big rush to get something done..MPH

it could be a weak coil but check gas flow did you replace condencer or points

Be sure there is no moisture in the gas. That can sure mess up a fuel filter.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this before (I just finished reviving a B&S 10HP that sat in my barn for god-knows-how-many years). There were two causes for this. The first was a new coil. I installed it backwards. Embossed on the black plastic covering the coil was printed on one side, "Cyl Side", and on the other, "This side out". I had the "This side out" pointing in which changed when the spark got triggered. I'm not sure if this applies in your case, but you might want to check. Secondly, the throttle jet needed adjusting. I went back to the basics. I set my throttle and idle jets to 1.5 turns from fully closed. This allowed me to accelerate, at which point I adjusted the throttle to the midpoint between too lean and too rich. Once that was set, the engine accelerated much better and also didn't die for no particular reason after a few seconds (sometimes minutes!) of running. Torin...
