Well Daddycat I went on a road trip today and got some photo's of the Allis B series Delivery truck.... I saw something like this at a show near me. Are both read axles driven. The one I saw had a drive system to both.

No This on the rear axle is just setting there...... It looks pretty neat.. I have a Rear picture in my Gallery....

Yep, that's the one I was talking about.... Isn't that just too cool!!! Taking a closer look, he had running boards tacked up between the front "fenders" and the seat deck to look like tha old style ones. I don't seem in this pic though.

That's pretty neat. Would be fun to put higher gears in there and get her up to 30-40mph!

OK, let's see: 1. Add a second pulley to the driven pulley on the 1st transmission, the same size as the drive pulley off the BGB. Connect a belt to the driven pulley on the second transmission and you have power to that tranny... 2. Add a vertical lever to the first transmission's gear selection shaft, long enough to stick up above the hump of the transmission. Add one just like it to the second transmission. Connect them with a very stiff rod that won't flex, and you can now shift gears on both trannies at the same time... 3. The clutch will clutch both transmissions, but you only have brakes on the front tranny... and no working brake on the second tranny to stop it from spinning so it'll shift without grinding.... Hmmm, how to get brakes on that one???? 4. Add 6" dual wheels with ags on both sets of axles, and you've got a "mini deuce-and-a-half..." Now if I only had the money for such a project just for a toy!

Kent, 1. The old 725 trannys have a longer input shaft. Remember I had to cut about an inch off when I tried to put the High-Low on the Putt Putt? Well, if you put the second drive pulley outboard on the front tranny and the same size pulley lined up outboard on the rear tranny, then both tranny input shafts are turning at the same speed. Both are also clutched though driven off one belt from the BGB. Another way to get power to the rear set of wheels is to put a chain and sprockets outboard of the brake drums. This would route all power for both sets of wheels through one input shaft and set of shifters. 2. Since you'll be doing away with the seat pan, you can make the shifting linkage go to the side, over, wherever it will work. The tranny shifters will need to be synchronized if you go that route. 3. You can run a rod from the front tranny brake to the rear tranny brake and activate it by any of several means. Any point on that clutch/brake lever will activate the brake, or you can go directly to the brake linkage or band. The wheels stopping should stop the gears from turning and grinding while you shift(unless you were thinking input shaft turning). 4. OK Kent, stop messing around. Even I'm not crazy enough to have an 8 wheel drive garden tractor. 5. Anyone have a few extra sets of 6" wide tires and wheels???? LOL

1. Yep, that's what I was thinking... 2. Yes, if you could put something on the front tranny's shifter shaft that had a bit of adjustment, you could deal with synchronization. I was thinking straight line connecting the two would be the easiest... 3. Since when you brake the front tranny to shift, and the belt is "direct drive" to the second tranny -- it would also stop that tranny from spinning so you could shift... though you might need to wait a second. How about a cable-actuated rear brake, using the unused left lift lever, so you could clutch the front tranny, yank the brake on the back tranny and do "moonshiner's turns" the way you could in an old VW bug with hand-lever emergency brakes... :D 4. Why not... can you imagine the looks you'd get cruising the tractor shows? Or on your Halloween rides? 5. I've got one set for the cause, but that's all I could divvy up... :D:D:D:D

Well Rob has my spare set of 6 inchers on that tractor we split so he could use the 6" ags on something else. I have the parts 725, I'll check tranny input shaft length tomorrow. I have a welder and some scrap iron..... Hmmmm....... Hey Rod, how tight will it be to put a Kohler Magnum 18 twin into a 725??? LOL Seriously, I don't think you can get the bigger engines into a 725 frame. You need the cutout in the frame. I have made tracings for other club members to make the cuts before. I have an old Landlord frame that can be used for a starting point or the frame of the parts 725. Will round hood tin fit on the LL frame? I think it's mid-sixties vintage. So we have most of a tractor, maybe need some tin. Hey Rob, don't scrap that bent hood support or dash. Since this will be decidedly a "Custom" job, who cares if it's not stock... lol Maybe use variable tranny plates to make it a "Stretch" version.... Anyone have a spare tranny they're willing to give up? Know where to get an OOGAH horn? lol

Instead of the second tranny, howbout just rear hubs, driven off a chain sprocket off each rear wheel, seems to me you'd still get the diffential action of the front rearend. Just an idea that's rolled around my head thinking on a someday grader project..MPH

If I were to do that, I'd probably drive the fronts that way and have the real tranny in the rear. That way you have a place to mount the rear lift and implements. You could have the second axle "sprung" to ride over bumps and dips, too....

Kirk, I looked at putting a 16 Hp Onan twin in my 61 wards at one time. If I remember correctly(been several years) I would have needed to almost completely cut out the sides of the frame to make it fit. Without those turned up sides those frames are weak. You would need to re-build the sides of the frame to go around the engine. Why not use a later model frame and mount the older hood and dash onto it? This might be easier. You should have enough parts around to look at this option. The whole thing will be hand built anyway, with no antique value, so why not go the easiest route? I like the idea of MPH. A couple of hubs mounted on swing arms with chain drive from the other rear hubs. This would give you all wheel drive and still allow it to go over rough terrain without lifting some of the wheels off the ground.

I saw a Bolens at the Sussex, WI Show that had been converted to a articulated Caterpillar style Tractor with dump box. The owner had taken the front wheels off, and added a U joint behind the seat, then added a second axle which had the box mounted on top of it. If memory serves correct he also had dually's all the way around. I will try to find a picture of it if possible
