PhanDad Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 I'm looking at retrofitting a 16 Hp Briggs single cylinder cast iron engine into my 17GTH-L. The existing blown KT17 engine has shields. The Simplicity 7116 with Briggs as shown below has both an inlet shield (part #14) and an exit shield (part #46). The Simplicity 7000 series doesn't have shields, nor does my Homelite (but the Homelite has a double wall hood above the engine, don't know if the Simplicity 7000's have this feature). What's everyone's opinion on the need for the shields? Anybody got any they'd be willing to part with? Thanks for your thoughts! The pic, finally:
Brent_Baumer Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 The 716H I have with the SuperCrapp in the other post is missing the exit shield, but it is a Kohler. Part of the reason why it no longer has the OEM exhaust I'd assume. Dunno for sure since it was like that when I got it. Doesn't seem to affect the engine any. Brent
Brent_Baumer Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 That's a peculiar drawing. Looks like a Kohler shield setup and muffler with a Briggs air cleaner. Brent
PhanDad Posted September 3, 2003 Author Posted September 3, 2003 Brent, The dwg is from page 14 of the 1986 "Parts Manual 7100 Hydrostatic Series" (TP_400_0843_04_SV_S.pdf). Same shields in very similar dwg on page 10 of later "Parts Manual 1GTH-L & 7100 Series" (TP_400_1125_03_SV_S.pdf). The exhaust shield for the KT17 is "boxier" and looks like it fits tighter around the muffler. The KT17 doesn't have an inlet shield.
