Allis Chalmers GT 816

I recently aquired an Allis Chalmers GT 816. It has a two cylinder vertical Briggs and Straton engine. It is a gear drive model. I believe that the mower deck is about 38 inches with two blades. Has anyone out there ever had any experience with this model tractor. i would like to hear either good or bad. Does it do a good job of mowing? Is that transmission and engine combination any good. It is in nice shape with new paint and tires. As it is winter here in Minnesota I have stored it inside for the winter. Was hoping to use it for mowing next season if this model will do a good job. I have about 1/2 acre all level. Please let me know what you think of this tractor. Also what years were they built?

I think it equates to a Simplicity 6116 made around 1980-81 and with two blades is probably a 36" mower (will accomodate up to 48"). The cast iron trans is tiller capable, 16 HP B&S is a good strong engine and the rest is made well too. With that much HP it should be able to cut through the thickest carpet out there! On a half acre lot it will probably last you forever. Just make sure the trans belt fully stops before shifting gears - especially from neutral.
