Tilling 6216 or Landlord 2012 ?

I am wondering if anyone runs their tiller without a hi-lo set up. I have been tilling for the last 5 years with my 6216 "variable", and it works the soil unbelievable. I recently purchased a Landlord 2012, and of coarse want all the attachments, but I am concerned about tilling without the hi-lo pulley. Will the tractor move to fast? The control of ground speed I have with the 6216 is awesome, but with the landlord I will not have that control. Your input is greatly appreciated. John

I till in first gear with my B-1. Works good with the engine reved up. Second gear is a little too fast.

John I think there are several variable that factor into the answer.I use the tiller behind my 3012V and sometimes 1st gear low range is too fast, like in old sod ground. It really beats you and the tractor a lot. In plowed ground or prieviously worked ground it does ok. I want to try the tiller on one of my B's when I get them up but neither of the three have the hi-lo. I'm thinking of either building one of them with a larger tranny pulley(lower speed/more power)or making a quick change pulley setup for different jobs, much like the GT pullers use. Just some things to consider. Larry

Larry Thanks, Changing the pulley, and belt might be the way to go. Maybe even a few different sizes. I till the same area every spring and fall, so it has been worked real good the last 5 years or so, but I do plan on enlarging the garden, but would plow and disk it first. Thanks, John

John I'm glad to help. You may not need to have different belts for this to work. A good springloaded idler pulley should take up the slack. I think that would work cause that seems to be the way the B series hi-lo works. The later hi-lo like on the 7016 I'm looking at use two sets of pullies and two belts. I've never seen the B hi-lo up close but I don't think there is a big difference in pulley diameter so the idler shoud make it work. Larry

In the manual for my tiller they recommend changing the drive pulley on the tractor to a 8" to slow down the ground speed of the tractor. I am also going to use the 8" pulley for running the snowblower.

Kris does the manual mention any adjustments when you change to the eight inch pulley? Larry

Larry, Yoi will have to adjust the brake and the clutch rods along with buy a new longer belt to go with it. I have the picture but I can't shrink it yet since I haven't loaded all the programs back on this computer after I formatted it but here it is.

Hey Kris, what size of a pulley are you changing from? Just wondering what the size differance is. Thanks, John

John, He has a 6" pulley on there now. At least that is the standard size. I put the eight inch set up on my B-12 and it worked great for tilling with the homemade mount for an old front tine tiller, 5 hp. I broke sod with it. Put the Bee in 1st and just let it idle. I had to lean the carb way down and adjust the idle air screw to get it to not sputter and die on me but it worked. I used the eight in to mow with most of this year. It is a little faster in 3nd than the 6in is in 2nd (not much, I did the math but don't have the figures)so I mowed in third and that made the mowing go faster. I could mow more per gallon of gas. Saved me about 1.50 a week. I mow about 6 acres.

Great Dale, Thanks, I was thinking of a pulley that would drop me down about one gear. Maybe I'll sell the 6216 with tiller after all. I sure like the "FEEL" of the way the Landlord shifts, SO SMOOTH for almost 40 years old! Just need to find a tiller and snow blower, then let the 6216 go.;) John
