I picked up a 300400 series Briggs a couple weeks ago. I got it with a Bunch of other stuff (Variable tranny, shuttle tranny, 10 hp briggs, BGB parts and pieces, Turn over plow). Anyway, If you give the crank a whirl it will whril and whril and whril. It is broke inside! I have never seen a broken rod in a briggs before. I have seen some seized and many just wore out but never one of these old monsters with a broken rod. I know there has been a lot of discussion about this in the past with kohlers. I am going to fix the ole fella. When I do I will try to make a detailed journal and post if if it is not toooo, lengthy.

Would love to read your journal Dale. I have a 300421 on my Landlord . It does not smoke and it fires right up. Strong "ole" engine. John

Couple years ago I picked up the remnets of a 16hp, wanted the oil pan, that had sent the rod into orbit right out the block. MPH
