I was taking apart my 7013 for the frame,BGB and other parts when I noticed there was only 3 out of 4 bolts in the BGB.. So I was hoping 1 fell out no luck it was broken of in the BGB.. Is there a good way to go about getting this out?????

Try using a easy out. I have good luck with them. RayS

Try a left hand drill bit first, the same size as needed for the easy-out. Most of the time the drill bit running counter- clockwise will grip and pull the broken stud out. If it doesn't then you have your hole ready for the easy-out. Also, try to find a straight flute easy-out rather than a spiral flute. The spiral fluted ones tend to spread the stud out into the threads and just make it harder to remove. Steve

Back when I was a full time mechanic, we often used a pick or punch to knock the broken off stud around until you could grab it with a pair of vise grips. It takes patience but usually works. I have never had much success with easy outs.

I agree. Get a punch with a sharp point and a small hammer and start peck, peck, pecking. A bolt rarely breaks off clean as glass. There is almost always a fracture line of sorts running through the bolt. Just catch the edge of that and slowly turn the bolt with the punch and the hammer. Peck, Peck, Peck. I too have never had success with a blame easyout:( but Peck, Peck, Peck works.;) I get to see how good it works on two bolts that are twisted off on the steering gear of my FDT. Hopefully I won't have this B) afterwards.

I have also heard of using one of those engraving pens to push the bolts around. I have a little automatic center punch and scribe that I carry in my shirt pocket that has gotten a many of them little ones out. I don't like them ez outs that are tapered I used to have a set of straight sided ones or ones that are not spiraled.

I have seen a few of these broken throughout the years but have yet to see on stuck. The left handed drill bit would be my first choice. Use a hammer only as a have to IMO. The BGB case is cast iron and cast can do some strange things when hit..( such as shatter like glass )

Well I got my E-Z out broke off in it So I will probably have to switch cases with the other one... unless I can get the easy out free....

Brian, Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I have broken more than I have not. If the bolt is broken off flush or almost flush, you really can back it out with a punch by getting to the outside edge and tapping it lightly to the left. It won't hurt to try and you may save the case. You are not taping the case, just the bolt and to the left. It is amazing how you will move it. Turn it a couple of times and a pair of vise grips as Greg suggested will take it out the rest of the way.

Brian, That the BGB to someone with a cutting torch. Ask them to use a SMALL welding tip to burn the easy out out. If its a welding shop, Ask for the man that most hates to use a side grinder..LOL He will know full well how to use an oxy/acet rig.. heheheh Its really not that big a deal bud.. On that size bolt, a fair welder can weld another bolt to the one in there so you can remove it...

If all else fails a die grinder with a small carbide burr will grind the Easy-out out.
