Look at the hack job someone did to the right hand side of the dash panel. Apparently they were determined to to put a big battery in. I'm going to need a lot of new parts to fix the tractor. Do any of our sponsors offer discount parts?

Thanks,

Sorry for the delay in getting the pictures uploaded. Had to switch from Netscape 6 to MS Explorer to get it to work.

You ought to see the 7013S I brought home today. The seat deck had completely rusted through in nearly a 12" square. So bad, they had bolted a boat seat to a piece of plate steel and then bolted that to the remnants of the seat deck.

I feel for ya Roy.:( That's a real hackers job.}:)

Roy, I have a 7016 hood you can have. You will have to change the lights but is is yours. I hope that it will not be too big.

Hello DaleC, Thanks for your generous offer. Do not do anything yet. I may try to see if I can get some patches welded in my hood. Is the 7016 hood going anywhere soon? Cheers,

Like I said, Roy, It is yours if you want it. I have no use for it or a home.

Roy, I'd take Dale up on the offer. I think the hoods are the same except for the decals, if memory serves. Brent

For a point of reference, I get $35 + shipping for a solid used upper frame(cowl) . Have a couple here, one is from a Shuttle and the decals(control lever but no white "shuttle logo") are not perfect but able to be lived with. Sand and paint, no holes to fix.

I love it, nothing like a guy who aint afraid to use a torch, hack on I say......:) they made a million of these tractors, why not morph one once in a while to suit your needs..... DougM

The only way I would give anybody any slack on a hack job like that is if he was out of money, the tractor needed a battery, and he had that one lying around, or swapped with his car to get the job done and keep the lawn cut. On the other hand, my guess is that it was not starting well, and everyone knows that a bigger battery will solve all starting problems.(much sarcasm). It is pretty common to see this - I just saw an HB212 AC that had the right side dash torched out to make holes for a GM style side post battery to fit in. Could have cried. Cobble jockeys like that have no idea what other problems they are setting themselves up for - the HB212 had no tie downs, and not nearly enough clearance to the battery terminals for my liking - can we say fire? Please don't hack. Just my opinion.

On my 3212 Dad took off the side panel and put in a bigger battery in .He was sick of buying the little ones that always went dead. It has been that way for over 30 years now and still working.Bob

My B110 had a car battery in it when I got it and the side panel had been cut up, it was an awful sight. I would also have to say hacking is bad, but there are some things that are actually improvements. I had the landlord seat deck strengthened by having some extra steel welded underneath it and it looks no different on the top and you would think it was factory, definitely not hacking. It is now considerably stronger.

A 51r4 is a car battery but it is what fits under $50 at wal-mart. Kent gave me the size and it works great. No hack job there. My b110 is reinforced under the deck for the new one bolt seat. Plate only shows with the deck up.

I have one of the 51 batteries in my AC716H. Fits great. I have to thank Kirk for that tip.

I have parts arrangements underway with DaleC and SmilingSam. My thanks to everyone else with their offers to help and a battery size that fits. Have a new gas cap/gauge on order from a local Simplicity dealer. Did some work today and found some interesting things. The gas leak was caused by a rusted spring clamp at the tank-to-hose fitting. The lights do not work because the switch was broken and the hot wire to the terminal strip from the ignition key is missing. One wire on the amp meter was barely hanging on with no retaining nut. The charging system might work once the wiring is fixed. Time will tell. Also found that step one to reach anything inside the dash cowl is remove the battery. Makes it tough to work on. Discovered that Tractor Supply sells an identical amp meter for $8. I think it is for a Ford tractor. Got my hands on a small can of POR (paint over rust) which I'll try when I get around to painting. Anyone ever use POR? How did you like it? Enough,

I think that I used to sell a simular product in the auto parts store. You just spray in on from a pump or trigger spray bottle and it turns the rust to a black oxide primer. does that sound right. It is supposed to be good to kill down rust. I would think surface only. Heavy damage is heavy damage.

I've gone to useing Permatex brand Rust treatment. Claims to destroy rust on contact. Turns any rust black like Dale stated. I always clean off any rust I can but on pitted areas, like battery trays, that have always held at least one frozen battery to late into the next spring, I feel it can't hurt. Guess the next 30 years will tell how good it is...MPH

Dale, I think what you are talking about is phosphoric acid. It turns iron oxide (rust) into iron phosphate which is a black non-rusting surface film on the metal. Many products, including Extend, use phosphoric acid to do this. POR is a product that is hydroscopic (SP?). It absorbs water and forms an impervious barrier to water and hence rust. I think it also chemically bonds into/with the metal. Do a Google search and vist POR's web site. Will tell you all about it. Thanks,
