What's the largest battery to fit in an AC B-210?

I remember this being discussed earlier (perhaps on the old Yahoo site) but couldn't find the thread.... What's the largest aftermarket (WalMart, etc.) battery that will fit in an AC B-210. After another winter, mine won't hold a charge unless it's started every two or three days.... Do you know the "Group Number?" Thanks!

Hello Kent, I gave our friend Mark Waite a jingle and was told that you should look for battery-22NF series for that tractor. It is the largest one made for it size wise that will fit without making changes to the battery box. I hope this helps and anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Best to all, happyjack

22NF is correct & was the original group #. Stay away from the department store brands if you want one that will last awhile.

Kent, You might also check to ensure the battery is not losing voltage through the battery case to ground. It is sometimes necessary to use an electrical insulator (rubber, styrofoam, etc.) beneath the battery and under the hold down clamps. On my B-1 I also had to put an insulator between the battery and gas tank to prevent voltage loss. If I remember correctly you can use a voltmeter between the battery and the hot cable to find leakage. Remove the hot cable, make sure everything is turned off, hook up the meter between the hot post and the hot cable across the open circuit. (if the polarity is reveresed the meter will read backwards) and read the voltmeter. If everthing is off, and there is no leakage to ground through the case, the meter will read zero. If something is turned on, or there is leakage to ground you will read voltage. The voltage will vary from full battery voltage to nearly zero depending upon the leakage path. Case grounding/leakage is frequently the source of discharged batteries that is overlooked. Hope this helps. Roy

Yes 22nf is the original battery group for the B series; however, WalMart carries in stock a 59 group that fits also. I have the 59 in my B12 as I could not find anyone in my area that carried a 22nf. The 59 comes in a 59 and a 59R (reversed poles). Tim

Not sure if there is a difference in the 210 from my 112, or Big Ten. But a Champion part # 51-1 fits the tray of those perfect. However it leaves limited room for a toggle switch that mounts in the instrument panel next to it on the Big Ten. I think Champion is sold by many of those department stores down there.

Hi Kent, I have found the best battery you can get is at farm&fleet, I have a B-10 and a B-112 and they both use farm&fleet batteries. I am not here to brag, but one time I hadn't started the B-10 fo about 15 months but when I pushed the starter button the engine turned over and started right up, same with the B-112. I have also started them up when it was below 0 degrees out. just tell them that you need a battery for an Allis-Chalmers B-210 and they will look up the numbera nd get you the battery.
