I have an oportunity to acquire a 7112 six speed. It has a broken connecting rod, but I will have a 16 hp briggs to drop in it. I plan to use it for gardening, snow etc. Has anyone had one, How did you like it? I have a couple 7119H and 7112H for mowing.

Most of the guys with 6-speeds rate them second only to hydros. I have a Sears (Roper) with the 3-speed w/high-low range. I love that setup.

I have a craftsman III six speed (20hp Onan), as well. I've been noting peoples problems with high low in older tractors. I figure Simplicity may have perfected it by the 7100. Or are the 7100 hydros perfect for gardening as well.

I'm not partial to gear drives, but the 910 6-speed I had did great with a roto tiller on it. Should work goo for blowing snow too. That 6 speed setup is in my opinion the best of all the high/low setups AC came out with. Sam

I have a 716-6. It is the only gear drive tractor I have kept for more than a few weeks because it is has a marginally acceptable selection of speeds. I like it much better than the 3 speeds but rate it far behind the hydro's for ease of use/comfort. Haven't used a shuttle much but when I did I liked it better than the six speed also because it had clutchless stopping and change of direction. Never owned a vari-speed to compare it too. Hydro's are definitely the best all-around, especially those with hydraulic lift. I'm talking about for almost everything, mowing, pushing snow, blowing snow, tilling, cultivating, belly grading, just everything. I do not enjoy shifting gears for the helluva it.
