Montgomery Wards

There's a section off the Simple trACtors homepage that shows the 1962 models, plus there's some info in the History section (thanks to Les). Basicially, Montgomery Wards got Simplicity into the garden tractor business by contracting with them to build tractors for Montgomery Wards to sell.... This relationship continued until the early-to-mid 1960's with Montgomery Wards offering a similar (different color) version of the Simplicity tractors. As compared to the Homelites (also made by Simplicity), which had some unique parts (like mower decks)I don't think (I'm not sure, someone please correct me if I'm wrong) the Montgomery Wards tractors used any unique parts other than perhaps decals/trim. Note that Midland also made walking tractors for Montgomery Wards, but I THINK (not sure, again) that the attachments would interchange between a Simplicity walker and a Midland walker. Perhaps Charles Wise or Karl Brandt (both are walker "fans") could shed more light on that subject. That's all I know about them, including some things that may be incorrect assumptions on my part.... Hope this helps! Kent

Wards also bought tractors from Gilson. Gilson is most famous for snowblowers but made tractors for many years. It has also been rumored that Wards sold the Powermax for one year, painted blue and called the "953."
