ehertzfeld Posted November 8, 2003 Posted November 8, 2003 Hi all, I am having trouble with the carb on my landloard. Its a 23d briggs with I guess its an updraft carb. Does any one know what the float shouls be adjusted to? Mine is getting too much gas. It pours out of the bottom by the choke.Any help would be great. Thanks Elon
MPH Posted November 8, 2003 Posted November 8, 2003 The float should be level with the carb body when holding it upside down. Check you float valve to make sure its smooth, replace if you have a briggs dealer close at hand. Since I don't, I have cleaned them up with fine emerey cloth by 'twisting' the point lightly pintched between it. Your carb is actually called a 2 piece Flo-jet
thedaddycat Posted November 8, 2003 Posted November 8, 2003 I pulled the instructions out of a Briggs carb rebuild kit(about $20-25) to see how they say to do it. Here's what it says: "The float should be in a horizontal position when it closes the float valve. Test as shown. Bend tang on float if necessary." The drawing shows the top of the carb upside down with the float on top. Hold a straight edge across the float and measure the distance from the straight edge to the corner of the carb body. It should be the same height on opposite corners when the float valve closes. Elon, if you want the directions or a hand let me know. It only takes about ten minutes if you have the carb off......
ehertzfeld Posted November 8, 2003 Author Posted November 8, 2003 Thanks Mph and Kirk, I tried it and we'll see what happends. Oh should I start with the needle valves bee almost all the way in? Then trun them out alittle at a time? I told you guys Its been a long time since I played with carbs! lol Thanks for your help Elon
MPH Posted November 8, 2003 Posted November 8, 2003 I think its 3/4 turn on the idle jet and 1 1/2-2 on the high speed. It'll start and run set like that anyway. If there almost closed you may not get enough fuel to start..MPH
ehertzfeld Posted November 8, 2003 Author Posted November 8, 2003 Well I tried in and it still didnt want to start. I went to Briggs web sight and got some info on the engine. Turns out it had the wrong plug in it. I just got back from Walmart with the two plugs listed. Ill give them a try tomarow. MPH, this mite be a dumb question but witch is witch? Is the top the high speed and the lower one the Idle? Or is it the other way? Yes Im kinda carb illiterate~ lol When I was a car mechanic I didnt see too meny carb mostly injectors. I did a few here and there but I had to get alot of help for others. Its been over 5 years since then. I work on trailers now "the big ones" no carbs in thouse!lol thanks Elon
thedaddycat Posted November 8, 2003 Posted November 8, 2003 The idle jet is the small one that runs horizontal, the high speed jet runs up at an angle from the bottom. It is towards the front of the tractor.
Allis_B12 Posted November 8, 2003 Posted November 8, 2003 High speed jet is at a downward angle on bottom half of carb, facing the front of the tractor. Idle jet is on top half of carb, facing the back of the tractor and the venturi, or air intake. It's the little screw that's hard to get at with a screwdriver.
ehertzfeld Posted November 8, 2003 Author Posted November 8, 2003 ok got it! thanks again guys. Hopfully some day I'll know somthing you guys dont!"kinda hard to belive huh?" lol thanks again for every ones help Elon
fuzy Posted November 8, 2003 Posted November 8, 2003 The champion number for you plug (if memory serves me right) should be a J19LM. If you are still leaking fuel look for a float that has fluid in it. (shake the float near your ear) If not you will more than likely need a new needle and seat in the carb. If you need the needle contact me and we will ship one right to you.
ehertzfeld Posted November 9, 2003 Author Posted November 9, 2003 Fuzy, nice one on the plug. It gave me that one and a cj6 as well. My float is empty, so it should be fine. Thanks for the offer and the needle and seat. I will keep you in mind if I need one. Well see how it goes today. Once again thans to every one who helped! Elon
thedaddycat Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 Elon, if you want to try the expedient(quick and cheap) fix, I have the parts left from rebuilding the carb on the B-112. There was nothing wrong with it except it needed a Welsh Plug, but I did the whole rebuild anyhow. You can have the parts if you want to try them...
