A coworker has a 1977 or 78 regent, he got it from an estate and doesn't need it, he says it is in great shape and never sat outside he thinks it has a 10 hp, but from the little I can find about this model it should only have an 8hp. Are these any good, or are they basicly just a riding lawnmover? Any info would be helpful.

The regents are lawn tractors, they can be mounted with a snowblower, push blade and a collection system for bagging leaves. They are not considered garden tractors for the fact you can't mount a tiller.

Even though they are not reaaly a garden tractor they still beat most of the new stuff out there. Much more tractor than any murray or mtd, etc. If it is clean and a good price you should take it. Look for a series number like 4108 4111 ect. The last 2 numbers are the hp. But either way an 8 or a 10 will still cut the grass just the same.

I have a Broadmoor of the exact same vintage. It is a 'small frame garden tractor', because, like KenK said, it can run a rear tiller. So, it is really very similar to the Regent in size, HP, & weight. I have a snowthrower and snow (plow) blade attachment. "Is it any good?" is a question you can answer. Mine mows, plows and throws snow, and tows my trailer wonderfully. If it will do your intended jobs, it is very good. My only complaint is that it is kinda' light in weight. Sometimes when I am pushing snow, the tractor gets pushed aside a little. So I hafta back up & ram the snowbank again. :D No big deal. In fact, the light weight can be an advantage, in that if I get stuck, I can hop off the tractor and push myself out of the stickies. The reliability of my tractor has been excellent.
