Simply Ford? revisited.

Did Simplicity ever make a Ford? I saw a Ford garden tractor in a boneyard today. At least it was blue with a Ford emblem and hood. It had a shaft drive. with a rear lift system that for all the world looked like it belonged on a Simple/AC. It was a Briggs motor. It had a Variable drive. The tranny was Simple/AC or I have never seen one. Was someone ashamed of there tractor and disquised it as a Ford or did Simplicity really make a Ford Tractor? I am taking my Camera tomorrow and taking pictures of a Simple Ford.

Not that I've heard of Dale. Bet someone farmed with Fords and redid it, kinda like that orange AC that was posted a few days back..MPH

Jacobsen used to make Ford's garden tractors for them. Good tractors. There is a Jake on eBay now- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2359772586&category=50377

There two things in the machine world I am very stubborn about being the best my ford cars and trucks and my AC tractors. Give me a blue oval and a power A anyday.

I just hadda weigh-in on this one.;) I started out all Chevy when I was young and wanted to be cool.8D After driving employer furnished company trucks I realized there was little difference in reliability in Ford and Chevy full size trucks. Then when I was in college, I picked up this 67 Ranchero with a 289 (a real beater) it needed water in the radiator and a quart of oil every 100 miles. But it just kept on starting and running. I drove it every day until it was stolen. I'm ashamed to admit that both I and my wife drive Chevy Astro's every day now but it is only because of what that vehicle offers in AWD and cargo space. When it comes to the small V8's, the small block Ford is nearly indestructable. I threw a rod in a 350 chevy C10 with 50K on it and never went back. My '88 Bronco II is now about a month away from it's first breath with a newly reamed and polished 5.0L, 4bbl Holley, Edelbrock and C4 tranny. I see Simplicity's and Fords to be very much the same in engineered quality. MTD's and Chevy's have their place, but in a different market.;)

Having twisted wrenches for the last 20 years I've seen both gm and fords with they're share of engineering faux pau's. Before this job I worked in a gm shop and owned K20's and repaired everyone else's. Once I left that shop I bought an F250, it now has almost 40k on it and aside from a couple of rattles and and front sway bar noise I have no complaints,it has enough snot in it to roast tires,I can put 2 tractors in it, and the last time I checked mpg it was near 12mpg with me at the wheel(I drive hard most of the time). Heck I still have the first set of skins on it. I'm not sure I'd buy one with the new 6.0L TD but I'm sure they'll get those settled out after a while.;):p:D

I am not really partial to any make of autos or trucks...I do have my favorite one I like as far as looks ect.I always drive whatever I get the best deal on...With that being said.. I have had alot more fords than any other but at one time or another I have owned one of the big three...I guess I have always been lucky with all the ones I have ever owned...nock on wood,LOL I just like razzing the hardcore chevy, ford or dodge folks...

Fords only for me, and MAYBE an occasional Dodge, but absolutely NO Chevys. I always find that a Chevy truck is most useful as a trailer.

Ford trucks seem to be good quality. Ford cars just don't handle high mileage well. I have worn out about 10 GM cars(mostly company cars, which most of the time I bought) in the past 25 years, I put between 150K and 210K on them. In that time I had three Ford cars. Without exception I had major repair on the Fords and nothing major on the GM's. The most mileage I got out of a Ford was a 92 Crown Vic at 177,000 at which point it was smoking pretty bad(tranny went at 124,000). Had the best luck with the Caddillac 4.9 litre, had over 240,000 when I hit a deere. I also own a 93 Ford Aerostar with 176,000 and going strong, don't use it much anymore, just a backup vehicle.

'87 F-150 157K and still going... '95 Crown Vic 155K and still going.... '93 Escort 200K and still going when I got the CV and donated it... Ford vs. Chevy is like Simplicity vs. Craftsman.....

I loved my 93 Dodge Dakota at 120,000 still ran great did'nt use any oil and no rattles or noise. The only thing that I did not like about it was that it needed more power 3.9 v6 if it had the v8 I would still be driving it. It did OK with the trailer full of garden tractors but did not pull the 4200 lb camper to good .Sold it to nephew and he is still driving it.It still had the orinigal shocks on it.

Had a Beretta with a 2.8 well over 200,000 when the man towed it away! now have a S10 Blazer 4.3 with 150,000 still strong as hell! I'll take a bow tie any day. WHen I work for a Gararge I work on all sorts of cars/trucks. I found that Chevy's are much easyer to work on than Fords. Any computer problem was a breeze with a Chevy. Fords were a stab in the dark kinda thing.I hate to admit it but the most dependable ones are your Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans, Ect. More expencive to fix but seldome do you have to fix them. Just one ex car mechanics opinion. I work on traliers now "very easy to fix" Elon

I've always been a Ford guy, but todays trucks of any brand, are the best ever. I just bought a used F-150 7700 package, and with 90,000 on it, there is absolutely no rattles, creaks or groans of any sort. It's quieter than than I would expect from any truck. I also have a '30 Ford "A" Tudor sedan, any time, any where, he'll jump right to life and go. Have a '63 Merc. Meteor, 260 small block, 148,000, on it. No ticks tacks clicks or clacks yet! Engine's never been out, or apart. BTW, that thang gotta hemi?! Take care! Rob

My mechanics teacher told me that his first job out of school was at a Ford dealer. He said he worked there for 5 years, and he just wasn't getting paid that much because there just wasn't many cars coming in to work on. He said he then got a job at the local Chevrolet dealer and his pay nearly doubled because of the never ending line of cars to repair. To me, that says something.
