Boney Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 When you guys paint the tractors what kind of primer do you use? Are there special primers for special paints? Thankx for any help
MPH Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 I been using NAPA's self-etching primer, seems to fill pretty good without a lot of sanding between coats. But, my paint jobs are not restoration quality. Have seen on here where others recomend using primer and paint of same brand..MPH
mowerman1193 Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 I use a self etching primer on the bare metal surfaces then I top coat that with a fill & sand if I am trying to smooth out the part and wet sand it smooth...
thedaddycat Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 I've done anything from a quick and easy rattle can job to a hand rubbed laquer paint job on my Sportster using down to 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper. You get out of it what you put into it, as seems to be the case with most things....
jackcobb Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 I just use NAPA self etching spray bomb primer, as I'm filling imperfections and smoothing. I use NAPA 8306 Gray Primer sealer as my finish primer. Needs sanded if you wait greater than 72 hours before the topcoat. (Or if you need to smooth)
powermax_paul Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 I use the Eastwood self etching primer in the rattle cans. www.eastwoodcompany.com
