Peerless 810A

I am about to go in on a peerless 810A transaxle. Anyone have any tips or pointers. Could use a good lead on printed material on the subject. Picked up a Regent 4208 for $10.00 et the dump the other day, runs well but it's stuck in gear. Thanks in advance for any help. Mike

Mike, This is a pretty easy trans to do. It has 5 sets of constant mesh gears and a pair of sprockets and a chain for reverse. The shifting is accomplished by a set of "keys" sliding in a keyway and having a lug that engages a knotch in the gear that is selected. Sounds like broken keys or shift fork. When you take it apart watch the "washers" between the gears and get them back with the "bevels" on the inside facing the right direction. Also watch the little locating lugs on the bushings, they fit in the knotches in the case. Also there is one bolt in a recess in the case, be sure it is out before you try to split the case. These are made by Tecumseh and they have a good shop manual reasonable. Good luck, Al
