I have a slight tap in either the intake or exhaust valve in the left cylinder. Should I be worried? Will it go away?

Tweeter, when I read the post, I chuckled and thought, "Yes, it'll go away when it blows up." That was mean so I will not say it. I am not familiar with the twins enough to tell you, although I did own one once. On the single cylinders, it is not uncommon to have a tap from the valves. It does not hurt a thing.

Tweeter, As long as it's running on both cylinders, use it and enjoy it. The possibility, form my expirence, could be a loose valve seat. This is a somewhat common problem with the 402707 briggs. Mel
