16.5 horsepower or 19.5 horsepower

I curious. I guess the powermax tractors were available with a 16.5 horsepower engine or a 19.5 horsepower engine. (Maybe it was a 20 horse.) Is there a noticeable different between the two engines when using attachments, or do they seem to be close to the same in operating capabilities.

The first year models - AC 616 and Simplicity 4040 were ~16.5hp. All models after that were ~19.5 hp. I have no experience with the 16 hp versions but I have heard that the only detriment to the smaller hp Onan is when mowing thick or wet grass.

The ONLY difference is the charging system (20 amp syncro, MUCH bigger flywheel), carb & manifold and seals on the intake valve guides. Go Figure! The CCKB (19.5) seems to make the units MUCH happier! JP

I've owned both and can tell the difference. Seemed to have much more staying power if you are trying to mow faster or in deeper/thinker stuff.
