Welcome back Gerhard. I don't use chemicals because of the cost and other problems they cause. Here in South Jersey, temperatures below freezing are very unusual for more than a few days at a time. When I installed my driveway I considered heating it, but I couldn't justify the cost for the few times I have to contend with ice.
