New Legacy XL

Just got back from the "Garden Show" in Madison. Saw the new Legacy there.....nice little tractor.;) Not quite as heavy duty as a Powermax, but Deb sure liked it.:D She was ready to trade my three Powermax tractors for one of those. She liked the quick attach loader and power steering especially. The salesman there said it was available with cat O 3pt and with 2000 rpm rear PTO. (so my Powermax attachments would fit) Literature says category 1 and 540 rear pto. Can anyone confirm or clarify this?

I cant answer your question Paul, But I dont believe these new Simps are worth the money. For less money than the base price for the Simp tractor alone, a person could buy a Kubota, John Deere, Massey, Agco, etc, with cat1 3 pt hitch, 540/2000 rpm front, mid, and rear pto, quick attach loader, 54 - 61" mower deck (belly or 3pt mount), and a 5ft scraper. As a big believer in the older Simps/Allis tractors, I fear Simplicity has re-entered the compact/subcompact tractor market with too little, too late, and too high priced. As much as I dread the thought, I fear Simplicity will go the way of Bolens, Cub Cadet, Troy Bilt, and White. The idea of an MTD sticker attached to an orange tractor just makes me cringe, but Simp continues to lose market share. By golly, I hope I am dead wrong about this one, but each time I visit my local Simplicity dealer all indications point in the wrong direction. Nick

Paul, I think you are right about it saying cat 1 and 540 pto, at least thats the way I read it. Don't have a brochure in front of me. Like crequake said , I don't think its as great a value as other eqipment on the market in the same price range. Heres a link to the specs on the Agco/Massey I bought. Mine was $12,700 with loader, cat 1, 4wd and 540 PTO. No deck with it at that price. Looks to be built a little heavier than the Simplicity too. I too have looked at the Legacy XL and liked but thought it was not a good value compared to the other tractors such as Kubota. But it is a good value compared to the John Deere X series of tractors which A dealer said it was supposed to compete against.

Sam, I don't recall hearing that you purchased a new compact tractor? Did you ever post pics? I do like the Agco ST series, is it similar to those?

I needed a tax deduction for the business so I bought a new Massey GC2300 described in the link above. I did post a few pics and got a little teasing over having yet another Red Tractor in the shed:D Agco has a equivalent, but I don't know what the number of it is. These are roughly the same size as the Powermax types ,maybe a little larger.

Depending on how much money I make at my Lawn care/landscaping enterprise and the tractor parts enterprise this year I may opt to buy the Backhoe attachment towards the end of this year. I think theres money to be made somewhere with one of those... One of these years I'm going to screw around at the odd jobs enough to make a full time venture of it and just work for myself. Another two years away at my best guess right now.

Sam for your information, That GC2300 is pretty cool looking. On simularities The Kubota http://www.kubota.com/Products/bx2230_comps.pdf comparison BX2200 with JD2210 and your GC 2300. http://www.agcostcompacts.agcocorp.com/ if you check this site you'll find the ST25 is the smallest agco tractor they make and they are calling it a compact not sudcompact however it may be a subcompact. Agco has the rights to the label for Massey Furguson. 1993 AGCO purchased the White-New Idea business of planters, hay tools and spreaders as well as the Coldwater, Ohio manufacturing facility. AGCO purchased the North American distribution rights to Massey Ferguson® products and 50% of a joint venture established for Agricredit Acceptance Corporation. The Massey Ferguson® acquisition expanded the AGCO North American dealer network by over 1,000 dealers. Distribution does not mean manufacturing rights. But time will tell.

Sam built those forks. But i didn't see the forks listed as an attachement. Could that there is a market for your forks Sam. The back hoe just may be cheeper than you thought.

They do not currently have forks available for the GC2300 series, but I am told that AGCO is working on it. There are trying to build it around a Quick Tach setup, but they are running into snags on weight/distance sticking out in front throwing the lift capacity off. They may have the bugs ironed out later this year. I really dopn't care to get into manufacturing anyhow, especially not in the United States with all the liability laws and lawyers currently in place. I'm sure you know what I mean too

Ok but you can sell plans/kits and others can take the risk of not following safe practices. Even in the USA kits are ok. Pick an assumed name business and incorporate it and they cant touch you John Q. Only the business.
