Using tires for identification

Hi all. Up 'til now, all the 12hp and below large frame tractors I've seen had 8.50's on the rear. All the 14hp and up had 10.50's. This also matches what I see for specs on simpletractors.com for the 7000, 7100, 700 and 900 series tractors. For example: http://www.simpletractors.com/models/700_series/compact_power.htm I picked this 712H up a couple days ago. It has 10.50's on it that appear to fit the rims just fine. Did it come from the dealer this way or did the previous owner change out the wheels and tires?

Well, My 712 had the 10.5's on the rear, and goodyears on the front, but in the pictures I see, they all have carsliles. My 310 has 8.5, the 917has 10.5 and the 410 has odd 9.5's?

That looks like a 1974 712H with the cream colored mower deck, I have one exactly like it. Mine came from the factory with 10.5 Carlisles on the rear and Goodyears on the front. But my front axle is orange instead of black.

In my Allis Chalmers Operator's Manual, Models 710 thru 718, published in 1978, the tire sizes for rear tires are listed as the 23-8.50x12 fitting the 710 to 712 and the 23-10.50x12 on the 716s and 718s. there is no listing for a 714. This covers the 6 speed, S and H models. Dan

Of all the tractors I have (11) with both 8.5 and 10.5 tires, the rims are all the same size 7-1/2" except one (310) which is 7".

Look at the information and you'll see that the early Landlord and Soverign were almost identical except the Soverign had bigger tires and engines. Most everything else was identical. Of the FDTs, the 2012 was the only Landlord made over 10 horsepower. I think it was with the 3400 series that the Baron was introduced as a mid-level tractor between the Landlord and Soverign, and they were somewhere in the 13-15 horse range if I recall correctly....
