Jon, Pull off the head and look at the cylinder. If there is no significant ridge at the top, and the cylinder is smooth, then you can probably get away with putting in new rings only. If the cylinder is scored, then you will have to bore it and replace with oversize piston and rings. You should also lap the valves to make sure they seat.
