power trouble?

I agree, the drive belt is probably worn on the sides allowing it to slip under load.Sounds also like your clutch lever where it goes thru the frame is siezed not allowing full pedal travel and spring tension on the belt.I've had many clutch rods that were rusted up in that bushing which ruins the drive belt in no time! dlc

I agree with DLC - fully remove the clutch pivot bolt and spacer - clean and lube. A sticky one will not allow the belt to fully tension.

I have a 1972 Landlord 3410 and yesterday, when climbing the grade on my driveway (maybe 10-15%) the tractor wouldn't carry me up! I got off it and it went up just fine (without my 200lbs on it). I just tried to adjust the spring tension on the lever that disengages the drive pulley (?) and brings the brake pedal back. Before I adjusted the spring (put it up a hole on the bracket thereby increasing the tension) the brakes weren't stopping the tractor without standing on the pedal and the pedal wouldn't "spring" back 1/2 the time. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi, I agree with all above, check the linkage first. Check that the front pulley is a V, as they get old they get like a U and the belt rides in the bottom of the pulley. When it is like this you are driving the tractor with the bottom of the belt [about a 3/8 flat belt] instead of the sides of the belt wedging and transmitting the power. Good luck, AL

Could you please let us know what transmision you have. It seems as though some of us are better suited to answer questions about certain transmissions unless we are a dealer mechanic and not just a back yard one. "WeLL" now let me speak for my self in that regard as that was a slip of the tougue. >>->happyjack<-<<

The drive belt is prone to slipping when going uphill in 3rd gear. If Your tractor has variable drive then you probably need to adjust it and possibly need a new drive belt. If it's a straight 3 speed then look to the drive belt. When the drive belt was getting old on my B-12 the tractor would pull and spin the wheels in 1st or 2nd but the belt would slip going uphill in 3rd. Since you adjusted the clutch are you sure that it fully engages? Tim
