Small brass fitting?

Bruker

Recommended Posts

I was doing some spring time prep work on 16GTH this weekend and while cleaning several years worth of gunk off the front of the B&S Vanguard I noticed a small brass fitting next to the fuel line where it connects to the carb. It looks like it should have a small hose connected to it but I couldn't find anything that was loose or out of place. What is this for?

That should be a bowl vent for the carb. There is nothing that goes on that fitting. Makes me nervous about dirt entering the carb bowl as it's a straight shot into it. I take a foam air cleaner element and cut a piece about 1" long and 3/4" square. Push an awl or a nail about half way through it, slide it onto the fitting and secure with a small cable tie. Can't say if it does any good or not, but it eases my mind to know that the carb bowl is breathing filtered air. Pat
