Fuel shut-off solenoid

I have a B&S 16hp Vanguard and I think the fuel shut-off solenoid is letting some fuel get into the carb when the key is shut off. I've been doing some cleaning on it the last few days with the air filter off and I noticed a small puddle of gas under the carb inlet. I haven't attempted to remove the solenoid yet but I will try tomorrow. Has anyone here ever had to repair or replace this part?

They are expensive. I had a Vanguard with a non-working solenoid. I drilled out the mechanism so that gas flowed all of the time, then put a manual on-off valve that I would turn off when finished and turn back or before starting. Worked Great!. In my opinion, that valve is just another way of "idiot proofing" a tractor. People don't want to think anymore. What is so hard about turning off the fuel when you are done with the mower? Why does it have to be automatic?

I with you a 100 percent Rod. All this 'idiot proofing' is mearly containating the gene pool. Scary thing is, many of those mowing lawns now are victims of the 'over protected' children raising habits taught by doc spook and the like. If people don't learn how to think before they are about 5 years old, ain't much hope for them.
