Brakes on a dump cart???

Recommended Posts

Agricola
The cart I have was originally designed for a two-wheeled tractor. The brakes were nothing more than a piece of flat metal that would be forced against the outside of the tire when you pushed on a foot piece. Nothing more than a simple lever. The carts had a straight, adjustable length, tongue with foot rests. A seat was mounted over the cart. I have everything but the seat. And I think I have a lead on that item.

Mike, I think the brakes were primarily for parking the trailer when not attacked to the tractor. This is especially useful when it is loaded and needs to be parked on a grade.

On the older walkbehind tractors the wheels were mounted on ratchet clutches so one wheel could overrun when making a turn. When going down hill, both clutches will overrun and the machines will take off for the bottom. Same thing happens when backing them off a trailer (almost ran myself over 1st time). The trailer brakes are a must when riding one around.

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
