this is a great forum! i will have about a million
questions in the future. i currently have a simplicity
707 that i believe is a 66 model. it was bought new'
and been in my family for years still running strong
i have not seen any reference on this site to any of
these mowers. it it a oddball?

anyhow, im going to purchase a new broadmoor soon
and im wondering if anyone has one and how they like
it? is the briggs vanguard as good as anything else
out there? im going to get a 14 hp probably.

any comments are welcome.

Dear Tim, I have a Simplicity 65 or 66 model 101. Could this be the model you are refering to? The shape of the hood is rounded on top and it has a "101" decal on the hood. Go to the web site and look at the "New in 66 section and compare.

Joe,
Don't know about the Broadmore but the Vanguard series of Briggs is about best you can get without paying double.

joe, mine is definitly a 707, at least thats what
the decals say. it originally came with a 7hp
briggs engine. is yours a landlord? if so, mine
is much smaller and only has a 32 inch deck. i have
decieded to get the new broadmoor and keep the old
simplicity and restore it as close to original as
possible. i tell you what, those new broadmoors are
very impressive. so much so, my dad is going to trade
one of his cubs in for a new one.

Hi you Guys, I must admit that while sitting on one at a dealer this week I could almost see myself with one. They seem to be just like the bigger tractors just a tite smaller. The only problem is I just can't seem to give up My 64landlord or my 3212H or just maybe-well someday I might not just be sitting on one at a dealership. I might be riding one around my yard. Thanks->jackl<-

They were definitely available in 1967... It could also be a 1966. Check the engine serial number...

I'm not sure why it isn't listed in the cross-reference -- perhaps because there is no AC equivalent at that time (pre-B207 or B-218)....

the original 7hp briggs has long since been replaced
by i believe the 3rd or 4th briggs 8hp. this mower
has never sit still at any time and was severely
overworked in its younger day. its really too small
for the work it has had to do. i did get the serial
number off the back fender just under the seat
and it was number 002905. does that give any reference
to the year model? thanks for any help.

Hello Eric - your 707 Broadmoor should be MFG ID 990373, 990374 or 990375 built in 1966. The series started in 1963 as 6HP and ran basically unchanged until 1976 with 8 or 10 HP available. It was known as the "Cadilac" of mowers in its day due to its ingenious rear pivoting frame design. Its cast iron trans lasted well with the rest of the heavy duty frame and was tiller capable. Many people that kept them 20-30 years went through 2 or 3 engines. Some were even able to trade them in for what they had originaly paid!
Todays current Broadmoor is not as compact as the original but it is more powerful and sophisticated - truly earning the reputation as the "Cadilac" of mowers. Its hard to make a great product better but they did!

Don't know if there the same animal but AC did have a B-206, B-207, and B-208. All vertical shaft lawn tractors of the 60's.
