When one goes up for auction on ebay and it is only 15 minutes away, you know you have to swoop down on it. Swoop I did, mower is a bit holey but the engine spins. Get it home, put in some fuel, and yank the rope (no electric start on this replacement engine). Nothing, so check for compression, none but the intake valve is moving up and down. Since it has a vertical exhaust with no can covering it, probably exhaust valve sticking. Take the head off and give it a spin and yep, the exhaust valve just sits there, wide open. Hey, this might also be a problem, the piston moves NOT!. Out comes the engine, off comes the sump. Cracked rod, damaged piston. So now I have to find a place to get the parts to fix it. There was no damage to the cylinder walls and the rod journal polished right up. Oh, the replacement engine is a 14 hp B&S, model 302437. Lots of power for a 700 and the steering wheel is on backwards of course. Side question... Is the flat piece of the steering linkage that comes out the right side designed to be horizontal or pitched downward. With it slanted downward, the steering draglink almost hits the footrest.

Is the 24 HP a misprint? I can't believe there is a 24 HP briggs that would (A) fit in a 700 and (B) not have electric start, cant imagine getting that one started with the rope.

I have used Foley-Bellsaw for some replacements engine parts. They don't have everything, but are very reasonable on what they carry. foley-belsaw.com 1-800-821-3452

I just ordered about $70.00 in parts from them. Prices are reasonable. retail cost probably would have been $130.00.

Hello glad I got on this site. I hope to upload a couple of photos of my Simplicity Broadmoor
Model 707 Tractor. I have replaced all the belts on it and installed a new ignition switch.
Have a mower deck which was in poor shape , repaced a couple of bushings and welded the
deck where there was some holes. The tractor and mower deck came from a friend and the
mower deck metal was getting pretty thin. Some new metal was put in it and we also undercoated the underside of the deck. This was done by my friend Greg Toulman.
I have not put the mower deck on the tractor yet, waiting for Greg to come home and give me a hand. Can you please tell me if there is a manual for the mower deck and where I could get one.
I would also like to get some moon wheel discs as well.
I will try and down load some photos of the tractor when my wife shows me how to.
I really love driving this tractor and also how well it is made compare today's tractors, especially the flexible rear end and the rollers.
      Tell the next time
      Paul
