Allis 610 PTO pulley dia.

This is a question to anyone owning a 608 or 610 Allis, (or Simplicity equivalent (I believe a 5008, or 5010)). I need the measurement of the pulley diameter for the two PTO pulleys that are at the front of the tractor, just under the bumper. Whoever owned my tractor before me tried to "fix" it, and replaced one with a different size than the other. I need to know which one is the correct one. Also, I'm having trouble with my mower drive belt 'rolling over' on me. Could this mis-match of pulley sizes be a possible reason? I'm also using a non-Simpliciy belt...and noticed that my mower drive pulley has a groove worn in it.

Part# 101096 PULLEY 4.5"OD MSRP $21.10 This pully is used in over 170 different applications. I would bet money the reason for the belt rolling over is the non simplicity belt. After market belts are not designed to twist & change directions and run on the back side.

Thank you. I was suspicious about the belt, but thought the experiment would be worth the while. Life's like that sometimes. The whole belt thing has me wondering how the after market manufacturers can label their belts for 'lawn and garden use', and yet don't seem to work well in those applications. Or is it just the Simplicity (and equivalent) models which are so hard on belts? Anyways....new pulleys are on order, and a new belt will be also. Am having fun driving the little tractor...be a lot more fun when I can mow with it for more than 20 minutes at a time.

Most belts and most tractor designs are in a straight line. therefore the belts are not designed to run at a 90° or a 180° angle that Simplicity tractors use. Simplicity belts are designed for this and to run on the back side of the belt on idlers to get this change in direction. Simplicity belts might cost a little more but are a lot cheaper in the long run and thy do last a very long time if adjusted right and no pulley problems. Most often when a Simplicity belt fails it is because of a bad pulley or something out of adjustment.

Thanks for the replies. Well...replaced both front pulleys with new OEM ones. Got out the trusty parts book and cross referenced the belt I needed. Find out it's the exact same one as on my 1998 Sovereign, go figure. Take the belt off the Sov. and go to put it on the 610...too short, waaaay too short. Now here's where it gets interesting. The original specs call for a 78" belt. In order for a belt even to fit...I had to buy a 82.5" belt. I believe I have found the cause of my problem...but can't confirm. The original arm at the front of the mower (which attaches to the front of the tractor), was replaced by a home made piece. I have two theories on this. First, the original one broke...and the previous owner didn't want to spend the money to fix it right. Or, the deck I have on my tractor was never the right one to begin with, but I have now way of knowing. Long story shortened...I'm testing the 82.5" (non-simplicity) belt..and I'm sure you know the rest of that story. If anyone out there can lend some additional advice on a course of action please let me know. As of now...the experiment continues.

This is getting interesting to me. I was quoted by my dealer that the belt (Simplicity) # 1713515 is the PTO belt needed for my tractor and mower combination (42" mower).I disagree with that. When I go through my parts manual it shows that the PTO belt, and the arbor belt are the same part number, and lists them both as Allis Chalmers part # 2025364. I realize there's some cross-referencing to do and will be making a call to the regional distributor to see if they have some answers. As of now...I won't argue with the answers I'm getting. Under 'normal' cicumstances everything should work as stated, but this is a unique 'hybrid' I'm trying to fix.

I don't know where Simplicity came up with this number for the PTO belt for the 42" deck on the AC 610 or the Broadmoor 5010. All parts manuals that I can find show part numbers that check out to be a 82.1" belt. In the new Belt and Blade Ready Reference it also shows the wrong belt at the top of the listing for that mower deck and at the bottom it lists 42" Mower Hitch Assy. P.T.O. belt # 1719819 which is the new number for the 82.1" belt. From what I can find both the arbor drive and the PTO belts for the 5010 and 610 with 42" decks should be 82.1" HA belts.

Thank-you. After more cross-referencing on my end I've come to the same conclusion. Bottom line...a new Simplicity belt has been ordered (1719819 82.1"). Hopefully in a few days I'll be mowing again.
