JoeJ
Ok, but be sure the bore is still straight and true. That happened on my troy built tiller and ruined the main drive shaft Joe
JoeJ
on the main spindle there is a hub that is bored to fit the spindle. The pulley mounts onto the hub with three 3/8" bolts. the hub has been replaced each time, along with the spindle.
tej
When you say the drive pulley hub loosens off do you mean the nut on the arbor backs off. If this nut is torqued to 75 foot pounds it should not loosen up. Is everything tight when you put it together and does the arbor spin freely. If everything else checks out ok and you have gone through three arbors I think it's time to change the pulley. The bore must have become worn when it wobbled the first time. tej
Are you using a new locknut and torqing it to spec which I beleive is 60 ft lbs? Also if the spacer was damaged it may not allow the hub to sit square. And don't forget the key.
Al
Hi, If these come loose, I always look very carefully at everything in the stack. I always replace the spacer under the top hub as the edges do not stay true when the stack gets loose. Also look very carefully at the lower pulley. Once this stuff runs loose it gets loose on the shaft and on a long stack like that there is not much you can do if things like the lower pulley aren't tight on the shaft. Wevetually they will start working from torque and belt pull and once something gives a little the crush is lost and the whole works goes. Very rarely have I seen one that the shaft and top hub would fix. A couple of extra parts is cheaper than having it go again. My two cents worth and its free, value accordingly. Al
Hi Joe It looks like you got plenty of suggestions. I have a simplicity with tat size deck and the center blade has a narrow small bushing looks like a sliver of metal. that piece looks like junk on mine. But it may keep the blade centered on the spindle. Look to see if the blade is centered on the shaft and if the blade is balanced. A shot in the dark but maybe worth the effort. Good luck Scott
Guest
I have a AC 716H with a 48" mower deck. in the last two years I have had to replace the center spindle 3 times. It seems that the drive pulley hub loosens off, then it starts to wobble destroying the spindle and hub. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated. JoeJ
Kinda sounds like drive pully may be the cause. Have you replaced that each time too? Joe J
JoeJ
The pulley itself is balanced and concentric. that was one of the first things that I checked
Guest
I talked to the service department at Simplicity today and asked them what the 3/4" locknut on top of the spindle should be torqued to. They told me that it should be torqued to between 160 and 175 footpounds!!! The outer spindles should be about 140 lbs/ft I think I found the majority of my problem. thanks for all the advice. JoeJ
Hi Joe, I am not sure what is causing your problem "but" are you using a "new" lock nut each time?? Also you might want to put some "locktite" on the nut and make sure that the nut is tightened to spec. Best of Luck, >>->happyjack<-<<
Guest
Shaun, I have had your same problem, as have a couple of other people I know. I solved the problem by installing all new parts including washers and top locknut. The deck has now been running for 3 years without a problem.
